Criminal Justice is a story that needed to be told:Tapsee Pannu

She had last year evoked praise from the critics and the film industry for her film Thappad, which dealt with the issue of Domestic violence.

Tapsee Pannu who assayed the role of a young woman Amrita in Thappad, who files for a divorce after husband slaps her at an office party, has lauded the makers of web series Criminal Justice for highlighting the issue of marital rape through their show.

Congratulating the producers of Criminal Justice Behind Closed Doors for speaking up on the issue, Tapsee says,'Criminal Justice Behind Closed Doors is a story that needed to be told.'

Tapsee Pannu said that she found the story of Anu Chandra, who suffered marital rape for several years without talking about it, extremely moving. 

' I found it (Criminal Justice Behind Closed Doors) extremely moving. It is laudable that the makers have raised an issue that needs to be talked about. The last episode of the series was really an eye opener, 'she said. 

Pointing out that many women like Anu Chandra are abused by their husbands but are not able to muster the courage to speak out, Tapsee called for the need to frame a law against marital rape.

'So many women like Anu Chandra are abused by their husbands but do not get the courage to speak out. Which makes one wonder why is there no law against marital rape,'she said.

The actor said that watching the show reminded her of her character Amrita of the film Thappad.

' Watching the show I was reminded of a dialogue of my film that NO means NO even if it is by a wife to her husband.

 Kudos to the team of Criminal Justice Behind Closed Doors for speaking up on thus issue,'the actor said.

Criminal Justice Behind Closed Doors is a crime web series that is a sequel for Disnet Hotstar's first original drama Criminal Justice . The series stars Pankaj Tripathi, Kirti Kulhari, Anupriya Goenka and Mita Vashisht in lead roles and was premiered on Disney Hotstar on December 24,2020.

Criminal Justice Behind Closed Doors is the story of Anu Chandra (Kirti Kulhari) , who is being tried in the court for murder of her husband Bikram Chandra(Jishu Sengupta) . However, during the trial, her lawyers Madhav Mishra(Pankaj Tripathi) and Nikhat Hussain(Anupriya Goenka) prove that she has been a victim of domestic abuse and Marital rape for several years.

The series, produced by Sameer Nair and Deepak Segal and directed by Rohan Sippy and Arjun Mukherjee, has won lot of critical appreciation for its highlighting the hitherto taboo issue of martial rape.
