It has been the most awaited web series on the OTT platform with its trailer and promos over the past weeks bringing to viewers the promise of a grand look and an intriguing storyline.

True to its hype, Paurashpur keeps audiences hooked with its grand production values and an intriguing story of royal life, power and lust.

The first episode introduces the viewer to the royal kingdom of Paurashpur where women are considered second class citizens with no freedom to chose their husbands and to fulfill their desires.

Paurashpur of web series is a fictitious place in 16th century India where women have no identity in society if they don’t have a man who can look after them.

King Bhadrapratap Singh of Paurashpur considers his queens as slaves to his desires and nothing more than objects to fulfill his sexual desires.

The viewers are introduced to various characters, including Queen Meerawati (Shilpa Shinde), transgender Boris(Milind Soman) and Meerawati's daasi Kala(Poulomi das).

Watching the various episodes of the web series, one cannot but be amazed by its grand settings and production values.

Paurashpur is by far the grandest and most elaborately mounted shows on OTT till date.

The show also makes liberal use of erotica to draw the audiences .

In terms of performances, Anu Kapoor and Milind Soman are effective in their portrayal of Raja Bhadrapratap Singh and the transgender Boris.

Shilpa Shinde and Shaheer Sheikh also impress in their roles of Queen Meerawati and Vyapaari Veer Singh .

Poulomi das oozes sensuality in the role of Kala.

Milind Soman is brilliant as Boris .

While the production values are grand and dazzle viewers, the choreography in the show is average with the dance sequence not at par with those required in a period venture.

Though the story of a war of the two sexes is intriguing, the screenplay slackens a bit in some places with some episodes coming across as boring.

Notwithstanding its shortcomings , its Grand setting, intriguing story of royal life, power and lust and performances by Annu Kapoor, Milind Soman and Shilpa Shinde make Paurashpur a must watch.

My rating: 3.5/5- one for the grand settings, one for performance by Milind Soman, Annu Kapoor, Shaheer Sheikh and Shilpa Shinde, one for direction and 0.5 for screenplay.
