Nafisa Ali, not Padmini Kolhapure, was the first choice for Nasir Hussain's Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai

Padmini Kolhapure may today seem the obvious choice for Nasir Hussain's musical thriller Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai with her natural beauty and vivacity but not many are aware that she was not the original choice for the film.

The original choice for the female lead in Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai, which created a buzz for its chartbuster music,  was former Miss India Nafisa Ali, it has been revealed in Rishi Kapoor's autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor uncensored.

Writing in his autobiography,  Rishi Kapoor,  who was the male lead for the film, said, 'around the same time as Junoon (which was the debut cinematic venture of Nafisa Ali) , Nasir Hussain was drawing up a contract with Nafisa Ali to work with me in Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai. '

Opposition by Nafisa Ali's father,  however,  put a spanner in her casting for the film.

'It (Nafisa Ali's contract) was signed,  sealed and delivered and everything was in place when, once again,  her father put a spanner in the works. He didn't agree with a few clauses in the contract, 'Rishi Kapoor said.

Also,  apart from objections by Nafisa Ali's father , Producer Director Nasir Hussain was  keen to cast a fresh face for the film.

'Nasir sa'ab was also keen to cast a fresh face, someone,  someone he would introduce on the screen  By then, Nafisa Ali had already worked in Junoon. So, the talks petered off, 'Rishi Kapoor said.

In his autobiography,  Rishi Kapoor revealed that earlier too, when his father Raj Kapoor had expressed his interest in casting Nafisa Ali in his next project after Bobby,  her father had expressed reservations about his daughter joining the film industry.

Rishi Kapoor revealed that at the Kolkata premiere of his debut film Bobby, he and his father Raj Kapoor were drawn by her beauty and expressed their interest in casting her in their next project.

Released in 1981, Zamaane Ko Dikhana Hai,  produced and directed by Nasir Hussain,  is a romantic thriller starring Rishi Kapoor and Padmini Kolhapure in the lead roles.

It starred Yogeeta Bali, Amjad Khan, Kader Khan and  Shreeram Lagoo in pivotal roles.

The film marked the debut of Padmini Kolhapure as a leading lady in Hindi films.
