Hollywood film Wonder Woman 84 continued its strong showing at the box office in India earning a record Rs 8 cr from cinemas on its opening weekend, box office figures said.

The film, which released in cinemas in India in multiple languages, earned Rs 3.5 crore on Saturday and Sunday from cinemas across the country.

The earnings of Rs 3.5 cr during the two days took the total earnings of the film during the extended Christmas weekend to Rs 8 crore.

Wonder Woman 84, produced by Warner Bros, had earned Rs 4.5 crore on December 24 and December 25, including the earnings from paid previews.

The earnings of Rs 8 crore for the film during the weekend is the highest earnings taken by a film released in India during the Covid pandemic.

Given the audience response to the film at the theatres, trade experts feel that it could earn close to Rs 20 crore during its run in India.

The previous installment of the film Wonder Woman (2017) had earned Rs 23 crore during its release in India.

The second in the superhero trilogy of films by Warner Bros, Wonder Woman 84 features Gal Gadot in the title role.

The film has earned good reviews from critics as well as Bollywood celebrities.
