Never thought that I would feature in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film: Deepika Padukone

Going down memory lane on three years of the magnum opus Padmaavat, Deepika Padukone today said she had never thought that one day, she would feature in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film as a heroine.

In a behind the scenes video on the making of Padmaavat, Deepika said,'“After Ram Leela and Bajirao Mastani, we all thought what could be bigger and how but we have done it. I never thought that one day, I would feature in a Sanjay Leela Bhansali film as a heroine. Not one but three. It is a huge achievement. I swear I never thought I would ever get to do this.'

In the video, Deepika Padukone is seen thanking the crew of the film for making the dream of Sanjay Leela Bhansali come true.





Posting the BTS video on her social media account, Deepika wrote, 'Some memories & experiences are difficult to articulate but live in your heart forever. Padmaavat,  was one such experience. Thank you Sanjay Leela Bhansali for entrusting me with this movie & character of a lifetime.”

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Padmaavat,  based on the epic poem of the same name by Malik Muhammad Jayasi, starred Deepika Padukone as Rani Padmavati, Shahid Kapoor as Maharawal Ratan Singh, and Ranveer Singh as Sultan Alauddin Khilji.

Padmaavat also featured  Aditi Rao Hydari, Jim Sarbh, Raza Murad, and Anupriya Goenka  in supporting roles.

With a production budget of Rs 215 crore, Padmaavat,  is one of the most expensive Indian films ever made. Initially scheduled for release on December 1 2017, Padmaavat faced violent protests, delaying its release.

After the Central Board of Film Certification approved the film with few changes, which includes the addition of multiple disclaimers and a change from its original title Padmavati, Padmaavat,  was rescheduled for release on January 25, 2018 in 2D, 3D and IMAX 3D formats, making it the first Indian film to be released in IMAX 3D.

The film received audience applause as well as critical acclaim , especially for its visuals and the cinematography .

Despite not being released in some states of India, it grossed over Rs 585 crore  at the box office, becoming a commercial success and the 10th highest-grossing Indian film of all time.
