Amidst a sharp rise in Covid cases in the country in recent weeks, the Gangster film Mumbai Saga did decent business at the box office, earning Rs 2.82 cr on its opening day yesterday.
Trade sources said that the John Abraham Emraan Hashmi starrer, which released in cinemas across the country yesterday to a tremendous hype, saw good footfalls at the single screen theatres while recording only an average occupancy at the multiplexes.

Mumbai Saga earns RS 2.82 cr on its opening day |
The film collected Rs 2.82 cr from theatrical revenues on its opening day, majority of which came from single screen theatres.
The earnings of Rs 2.82 crore for Mumbai Saga on the opening day were below the expectations considering the huge buzz generated by the film ahead of its release.
Infact, Trade experts had predicted an opening day of over Rs 5 crore for the film.
Trade sources, however, say that the 'lower than expected' earnings of Mumbai Saga on the opening day is in large part due to the fresh surge in Covid cases in the country in recent weeks, which has led to the Maharashtra government impissing fresh restrictions in the state, including allowing just 50 per cent capacity in theatres.
Viewed in this regard, trade sources feel that the earnings made by the film are commendable.
They expect a rise in the collections of the film on Saturday and Sunday, as had been witnessed in the case of previous week's release Roohi.
The low collections of the film have also been attributed to the fact that a large chunk of earnings of the film were expected from Mumbai as it is about the transformation of Bombay to Mumbai.
Directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by his White Feather Films in association with T series, Mumbai Saga features John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles with Suniel Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prateik Babbar, Samir Soni, Amole Gupte and Gulshan Grover in key roles.
Set in the 80s and the 90s,, Mumbai Saga tells the story of the changing face of Mumbai , from a city of big mills to becoming an urban landscape comprising of malls and high rise buildings.
The promos and the trailer of the film have generated lot of buzz among cinegiers and the makers are hopeful that the film will continue the process of bringing the audiences back to the theatres, that was started by Roohi last week, notwithstanding the restrictions imposed by the Maharashtra government following a surge in covid cases
