Arabian Nights story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves will come alive on the television screens this June with telecast of the Dharmendra Hema Malini starrer Alibaba Aur Chalis Chor on Sony Max next week.
More than three decades after it entertained cinema lovers on the Silver screen,
captivating story of Ali Baba and his journey to discover the hidden treasure in the cave will be telecast on Sony Max on June 30.

A collaboration between India and the erstwhile Soviet Union, Alibaba Aur Chalis Chor was directed by Uzbek director Latif Faiziyev with Indian director Umesh Mehra.
Apart from the re-telling of the superhit kids tale, the film sees Dharmendra and Hema Malini stealing the show with some spellbinding performance and romance.

Like the classic tale of Ali Baba Aur Chalis Chor, the film’s plot has over the years garnered a lot of attention from the young audience. What has really entertained the audience though is Ali Baba aka Dharmendra’s performance that follows by a hilarious comedy of errors.
The plot takes audiences on travels of the ordinary villager, Ali Baba during which he discovers a dacoits' magical cave.
The story, which witnesses Allbaba devising a plan to outsmart the thieves by stealing their fortune and distributing it to villagers, hooks the audience to the proceedings.
Featuring Dharmendra and Hema malini, two of the best B-towns actors who we have loved watching on-screen together, Alibaba Aur Chaalis Chor grabbed eyeballs with the sparkling chemistry between the duo.

It was the most successful Indian-Soviet co-production, becoming a success in both India and the Soviet Union.
In India, it was the eighth top-grossing film of 1980, earning Rs 30 million nett from a gross collection of Rs 60 million.
It was a silver jubilee in India after running in theaters across India for 25 weeks continuously.
In the Soviet Union, it was the fifth top-grossing domestic film of 1980, and the 32nd highest-grossing domestic film of all time, with 52.8 million box office admissions, equivalent to approximately 13.2 million руб (Rs 161.13 million).
Worldwide, the film grossed Rs 221.13 million. This is equivalent to Rs 5.915 billion adjusted for inflation in 2017.
The film wons awards at several film festivals, including the All-Union Film Festival in 1980, the Dushanbe Film Festival in 1980 and the Grand Prix at the Belgrade Film Festival in 1981.
