Shooting for Gangubhai Kathiawadi wrapped up,Alia  calls it a 'life changing heart wrenching experience'.

After inordinate delays due to two waves of Covid-19,  the shooting of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Gangubhai Kathiawadi was wrapped up today.

The film is now slated to release in theatres on July 30.

Bhansali productions shared the news of the wrap up of the film on social media.

'Today, as we mark another milestone of this memorable journey, we call it a wrap for a film that is very close to our hearts... #GangubaiKathiawadi  See you soon on the other side! ,'Bhansali Productions said.

Directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali and produced by Jayantilal Gada and Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Gangubai Kathiawadi is a biopic on the life of Gangubai – a madame in the red light area of Kamathipura.

The film stars Alia Bhatt in the title role with Vijay Raaz, Indira Tiwari and Seema Pahwa playing Pivotal roles.

Sharing the news of the wrap up of the film,  Alia bhatt said that shooting for the film has been a 'heart wrenching 'life changing ' experience for her.

She said that being directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali had been a dream for her which has been fulfilled with Gangubhai Kathiawadi.

She also shared photos from the shoot of the film.

'We started shooting Gangubai on the 8th of December 2019. And we wrapped the film now 2 years later! This film and set has been through two lock downs.. two cyclones.. director and actor getting covid during the making!!! the troubles the set has faced is another film all together!

But through all that and more.. what I take away is the gigantic, mind blowing, heart wrenching life changing experience! Being directed by sir has been a dream all my life, but I don’t think anything would have prepared me for the journey I was on for these two years. I walk out of this set a different person today! I love you sir! Thank you for being you .. there is truly NO ONE like you  When a film ends a part of you ends with it! Today I’ve lost a part of me.. Gangu I love you! Shooting for Gangubhai Kathiawadi wrapped up 

Gangubai Kathiawadi also features Ajay Devgn and Emraan Hashmi  in a extended cameo appearance. 

The film is the story of young Ganga's journey to mark her own territory to become Gangubai – a madame in the red light area of Kamathipura. The film shows the rise of a simple girl from Kathiawad who had no choice but to embrace the ways of destiny and swing it in her favour.

The film is loosely based on the book Mafia Queens of Mumbai written by S. Hussain Zaidi.

Gangubai Kathiawadi is scheduled to release on 30 July 2021 in Hindi and Telugu languages.

Shooting for the film began in 2019 but was impacted by the first and the second wave of COVID-19.  During the shooting of the film, director Sanjay Leela Bhansali and lead actor Alia bhatt tested positive for Covid-19,  delaying the shooting of the film.

The film marks the Bollywood debut of television Actor  Shantanu Maheshwari, who portrays Gangubai's boyfriend Ramnik Lal.
