After wowing audiences with slick action thrillers like Sooryavanshi and Bell Bottom and the more recent rescue drama Mission Raniganj, Akshay Kumar is back with another emotionally charged performance in his latest release Sky Force, a film based on India’s attack on the Sargodha airbase of Pakistan during the India Pakistan war in 1965.

As Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja who led the attack by the Indian Air Force on the Sargodha airbase of Pakistan during the India Pakistan war in 1965, Akshay Kumar comes up with a virtuoso act that leaves the audience in tears and imbues them with a feeling of pride.

Sky Force is a gripping action drama with brilliant performances by Akshay and Veer Pahadia

Sky Force is based on a real life incident of India’s attack on the Sargodha airbase of Pakistan during the India Pakistan war in 1965.

During the 1965 war, the Pakistani Air Force carried out an attack on an Indian Airbase. In the retaliatory attack,  the Indian soldiers captured a Pakistani pilot Ahmed Hussain (Sharad Kelkar) .

The film begins with Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja (Akshay Kumar) shown interrogating Ahmed Hussain.

The story then goes in flashback. After the Pakistani  attack on the Indian airbase,  which leaves  several Indian soldiers martyred, Wing Commander K O Ahuja prepares his officers for the retaliatory attack on Pakistan.

The mission is carried out under the leadership of Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja. Among those in his team are T Krishna Vijaya(Veer Pahadia in his debut role) and Air Commodore David Lawrance (Manish Choudhary).

During the mission,  India destroys the hi tech aircrafts of the Pakistani Air Force with his old aircrafts, avenging the deaths of its soldiers. However,  during the mission T Krishna Vijaya goes missing.

Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja,  who sees in T Krishna Vijaya glimpses of his martyred brother,  searches for him for 23 years. The rest of the film is about whether Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja's efforts to find T Krishna Vijaya bear fruit.

Writers and directors Abhishek Anil Kapoor and Sandeep Kewlani keep the audience hooked all through the film with a taut and gripping screenplay. The screenplay,  coupled with a strong emotional quotient,  evokes the patriotic fervour of every Indian with a tale of sacrifice and  courage by the brave officers of the Indian Air Force.

The cinematography by Santhana Krishnan Ravichandran is eye filling,  especially the scene of the attack on the airbase.

The film boasts of excellent VFX effects and slick action sequences that keep the audiences on the edge of their seats all through the film.

In terms of performances,  Akshay Kumar is the highlight of the film as Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja.  As the officer in charge of the mission,  Akshay leaves you with a feeling of awe with his strong screen presence.

He also excels in emotional scenes with some of his scenes leaving you in tears.

Veer Pahadia leaves an impact in his debut performance.  However, the performance of Sara Ali Khan as Geeta Vijaya leaves much to be desired.  Manish Chowdhary makes his presence felt as Air Commodore David Lawrence.

Sharad Kelkar is apt as the Pakistani officer.

With its strong emotional quotient and sequences that evoke patriotic fervour among the audience,  Sky Force is an apt tribute to the brave officers who did indi proud during the 1965 India Pakistan war.

In a nutshell,  Sky Force is a gripping action drama that keeps you hooked with brilliant performances by Akshay and Veer Pahadia and strong patriotic fervour

Rating: 4/5(one for direction, one of cinematography, one for story and one for performances by Akshay and Veer Pahadia).
