Saira Banu remembers mother Naseem Banu on her birth anniversary

She is among the luminaries of Indian cinema whose name is etched in the hearts of cinelovers. Among the great actresses of Indian cinema in the Golden Era,  the name of Naseem Banu is etched in the history of Indian cinema as among the most beautiful women.

Cinelovers still recall with admiration the persona of Naseem Banu for her portrayal of Empress Noorjehan in Sohrab Modi historical Pukar.

Remembering Naseem Banu on her birth anniversary,  yesteryears Bollywood actress and Naseem Banu's daughter Saira Banu said, ''I start the New Year to begin to write with a sense of reverence.  Happy birthday in the memory of my mother who not only gave birth to me but monitored my entire existence into a beautiful life. .

Whatever Allah has given me in every successful step in my life I owe to her.'

Talking about the ethereal beauty of her mother Naseem Banu,  Saira Banu said, ''Pari Chehra Naseem Banuji, the first female superstar of her time, had blazed a glorious trail of admiration for her with Sohrab Modi's historical PUKAR where she personified the aura of Empress Noorjehan. The film had such an impact that fans in rural areas would take off their shoes with respect at the entrance of the theatres to view the film PUKAR. ''

In a post on Instagram,  Saira Banu recalled Naseem Banu's long list of admirers, including her husband and legendary actors Dilip Kumar and Ashok Kumar,  and Superstar Amitabh Bachchan.

'I recall with utter joy that icons like the great Dilip Sahib and Amitabh Bachchan when questioned and asked of the most beating women that they have seen in the world they have outrighly stated the name of Appaji(Naseem Banu).

When I worked with Ashok Kumar Sahib, he told me,'''Saira you know beta when your mother walked into a function or a get together,  the room would be full of luminous light with her Great Beauty, ''Saira Banu wrote.

Going down memory lane,  Saira Banu said, 'we were a small family of four people; my grandmother Shamshad Abdul Wahid Khan, her sister Khurshid Begum, Appaji (Naseem Banu)and Sultan Bhai. Unfortunately,  owing to unavoidable circumstances,  we were a single parent family.

At the age of 16, my mother had to take on the stance of the family's mantle bearer and she did a splendid job all around  and educated my brother and I in London day schools. She insisted always on our 'Desi Roots'. We traveled this beautiful world but the chunk of our holidays were spent in Bombay and Delhi to vibe with our own traditions. ''

An actress during the 1930s,40s and 50s, Naseem Banu,  daughter of legendary singer and actress Shamshad Begum, rose to fame with Sohrab Modi's Pukar (1939) in which she played the role of Empress Nur Jahan.

Among the most beautiful actress of her time, Naseem Banu  got the sobriquet Pari-Chehra (fairy face) Naseem through the publicity advertisements of her films.
