Biopic of Saina Nehwal releases in cinemas tomorrow amid huge expectations, fresh covid surge

Saina, a biopic on the life of one of India's greatest badminton players Saina Nahwal , will release in cinemas on March 26, amid high expectations and cloud over future mega starrers due to fresh covid Surge in the country.

Ahead of the release of the film, which features Parineeti Chopra in the title role, film critics and celebrities from the film world heaped effusive praises on Parineeti for her powerhouse performance in the biopic, which has been directed by Amole Gupte.

Notwithstanding the praise from film celebrities and the critics, the film release in cinemas comes with a lot of uncertainties arising due to a fresh surge in Covid cases in the country .

The sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in many states in the country, including Maharashtra, has adversely impacted the earnings of Bollywood films Roohi and Mumbai Saga, which released in cinemas over the last two weeks.

The worsening covid situation in the country, especially in the Hindi markets, has put a question mark on release of mega starrers scheduled to hit Cinema screens in coming months, including Bunty Aur Babli2, Chehre, Sooryavanshi and Salman Khan starrer Radhe.

Notwithstanding the ground situation in the country vis a vis covid, trade experts , who have seen the rushes of Saina, have, however, expected confidence that the film will take a decent opening at the box office.

The huge buzz created by the trailer and promis of the film, coupled with the tremendous following enjoyed by Saina Nehwal , especially among the youth, is expected to drive audiences to theatres to watch the film.

Infact, seeing Parineeti Chopra effortlessly play the character of Badminton medallist Saina Nehwal in the trailer of the film has aroused the curiosity among cinelovers.

Infact in recent years, many biopics like  Gold(2018),  Dangal(2016),  M S Dhoni The Untold Story (2016),  Mary Kom(2014) and bhaag Milkha Bhaag(2013)  have done average to good business at the box office.

Written and directed by Amole Gupte, Saina has been produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Sujay Jairaj and Rashesh Shah under the banner of T-Series and Front Foot Pictures.

It also features Manav Kaul in a key role.

Saina has music by Amaal Malik and lyrics by Kunaal Vermaa. The film has been edited by Deepa Bhatia.

The film was initially set to release in September 2020, but was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic .
