The surge in covid cases in many states in the country,   especially Maharashtra, continues to take its toll on the box office earnings of Bollywood films  Roohi and Mumbai Saga.

After a sharp drop in collections of Gangster film Mumbai Saga on Monday to Rs 1.5 cr, the box office collections of the film saw a further drop on Tuesday to
Rs 1,10 cr.

The John Abraham Emraan Hashmi starrer, which had witnessed a steep fall in its earnings on Monday to Rs 1.50 cr, from a high of Rs 3.5 cr on Sunday, saw an over 20 per cent fall in its earnings on Tuesday to Rs 1.10 crore

With its earnings on Tuesday, the film has now collected Rs 11.10 crore in its first five days.

Collections of Mumbai Saga see further drop on Tuesday

With the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra rising to a record level of over 31000 in the last 24 hours, the action film is likely to see a further drop in its earnings on Wednesday .

Mumbai Saga, which had released on March 19 to a tremendous hype, however, had below average opening day earnings of Rs 2.83 crore on Friday, which has been attributed to the fresh surge in Covid cases in many states in the country, especially in Maharashtra.

With the state government impissing fresh restrictions in the state in the wake of the COVID-19 surge, footfalls in theatres for Mumbai Saga were dark below expectations.

The collections of the film saw a further drop on the second day on Saturday with earnings of Rs 2.25 crore.

However, the film witnessed a sharp rise in collections on Sunday to
Rs 3.50 cr, only to be followed by a steep drop during the week days.

Trade sources, however, feel that collection of the film could pick up in the coming days if the situation on the ground  sees an improvement and number of COVID-19 cases in the country record a dip in the coming days.

They feel that the collections of Rs 3.5 cr for the film on Sunday show that people are ready to go to cinemas to watch the film if the situation improves.

Infact, Director Sanjay Gupta has said that Mumbai Saga is a film that is tailir made for the big screen.

Directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by his White Feather Films in association with T series, Mumbai Saga features John Abraham and Emraan Hashmi in lead roles with Suniel Shetty, Kajal Aggarwal, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prateik Babbar, Samir Soni, Amole Gupte and Gulshan Grover in key roles

Set in the 80s and the 90s,, Mumbai Saga tells the story of the changing face of Mumbai , from a city of big mills to becoming an urban landscape comprising of malls and high rise buildings.

The country has been witnessing a surge in covid cases in many states, including Maharashtra, forcing the respective state government to impose fresh restrictions in the states, including allowing capacity of just 50 percent in hotels and cinema halls.

The fresh surge in Covid cases has put a question mark on release of big starrers scheduled in April and May, including Bunty Aur Babli2, Chehre, Sooryavanshi and Salman Khan starrer Radhe.
