Excel entertainment postpone release of Toofan in solidarity with those hit by Covid situation

With the Covid  situation in the country continuing to worsen,  Excel entertainment today said that they are postponing the release of their new film Toofan to a late date in solidarity with those hit by the second wave of COVID-19 pandemic. 

Toofan was scheduled to release on Amazon Prime Video on May 21.

In a joint statement,  Excel entertainment and Rakeysh Om Prakash Mehra pictures said that they have decided to postpone release of  Toofan  till the situation in the country improves.

They said that they would issue an update on the new release date of the film in due course of time.

'The situation in the country is truly heart breaking and we at Excel entertainment and ROMP pictures send our thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the pandemic. 

In light of the severity of the situation,  our focus is completely  on the pandemic supporting our employees,  their families and in helping the wider community. Therefore,  we have taken the decision to postpone release of our film Toofan till the situation improves. 

We will issue an update regarding our new release date in due course of time. 

Please continue to observe Covid appropriate behaviors. Also, please register and get vaccinated whenever it is your turn. On behalf of the entire team of Toofan, we urge you to stay home, stay safe and stay United, the statement by Excel entertainment and ROMP pictures said. 




Excel entertainment and ROMP pictures postpone release of Toofan in solidarity with those hit by the second wave of COVID-19 



The postponement of release of Toofan comes amid an unprecedented surge in covid cases in the country in recent weeks,  which has resulted in a severe strain on the healthcare system.  The sharp spurt in COVID-19 cases in the country has resulted in acute shortage of hospital beds,  medical supplies and medical supplies in various areas of the country. 

The worsening covid situation in the country has resulted in makers of mega starrers Haathi Mere Saathi, Bunty Aur Babli2, Chehre, Sooryavanshi and Satyamev Jayate 2 postponing release of these films till a later date.



The present situation has adversely impacted the earnings of recently released Bollywood films Roohi, Mumbai Saga, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Saina.

With the situation remaining grim, it is only a matter of time before the makers of other mega starrers also postpone the release of the films.

Bollywood has several mega starrers lined up in the coming months,  which would be severely impacted if the covid situation in the country continues to worsen. 

Directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who also helmed the biopic of Olympian athlete Milkha Singh, Toofan has been produced by Excel Entertainment in association with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra pictures.

Toofan features Farhan as a National level boxer. It also features Mrunal Thakur , Paresh Rawal and Vijay Raaz in key roles.

The trailer of Toofan, which was released by Excel Entertainment last month, had excited the curiosity of the viewers .

The trailer gives viewers a glimpse of story of a national level boxer, who rises like a wind (Toofan) to establish a name for himself for India in the world of boxing.

It showed Farhan's transformation from a roadside boxer to a National level boxing champion, helped by the able support from the love of his life (Mrunal Thakur) and the guidance of his teacher (Paresh Rawal) .

The film is the second collaboration between Farhan Akhtar and rakeysh Omprakash Mehra after they earlier worked together in Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.
