Saira Banu said that her early encounters with Nanda were  when she entered the film industry in the  60s.

''My mother Naseemji, Waheeda Apa(Waheeda Rehman), Sayeeda Apa(Waheeda Rehman's sister) had for years been neighbour's at the Nepean Sea road. As I came to films in the 1960s, I came to know of the famous friendship between top stars Nandaji, Waheeda Rehmanji, Shakeelaji, Jameel Jaleelji. We got to hear beautiful innocent escapades of fun  and frolic between these dear friends.

During the early years of my career I would  see her at film soirees with Waheeda Apa and we would occasionally run into each other like this. As time passed,  I felt very comfortable in Nanda Tai's company as she was not a 'put off' or pretentious in any way. We started to meet in our respective homes. She became very fond of my mother,  grandmother.  I was drawn towards sushila aaiee(who like my mother, had given it all to bring up her family single handedly, 'Saira Banu said.

Saira Banu revealed that Nanda had no qualms in working with newcomers in the industry.  Unfortunately,  however,  the same actors expressed their disinclibation to work with her as soon as they became established stars.

'She told me that throughout her career,  she never minded working with new heroes. In fact, like a good encouraging colleague, in fact,  she patiently and diligently guided them in their work, literally holding their hands and guiding them through the paces of their work to achieve their goals of establishing themselves popular heroes.

However,  as soon as they were well established,  it was another story that they would not think of Co starring with her and fulfilling their mead of gratitude to her. Waheeda Apa also endorsed this that she was disappointed at the way Nanda Tai was neglected in this, 'Saira Banu wrote.

Saira Banu recalled that her friendship with Nanda lasted through thick and thin.

'Our friendship lasted out well in thick and thin, but I miss her, a friend with whom I could share my confidence in the world
