The history of Bollywood abounds with one actor's rejection of a film paving way for the movie proving to be a turning point of another actor's career. 


The case of  Raj Kumar and Dev Anand's refusal to do Prakash Mehra's Zanzeer proving to be the film becoming a turning point of Amitabh Bachchan's career is well known. 


However,  not many may be aware that the Iconic love story Pyar Jhukta Nahin, which propelled the then upcoming actor Mithun Chakraborty into the big league of Bollywood,  was originally offered to Bollywood's lover boy Rishi Kapoor. 


This has been revealed by the late actor in his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor uncensored.

Writing in his autobiography,  Rishi Kapoor said, 'K C Bokadia pursued me for a month to star in a film he was producing  called Pyar Jhukta Nahin (1985). He used every bit of influence he could to get me to agree. He tried to reach me through  Neetu, who had acted in one of his films and via my mother in law too.' 


Rishi Kapoor said that he was disinclined to do the film as it required him to play father to six year old . 


'I didn't want to do the film as it required me to play father to a six year old. At that point I was a Nasir Husain hero. My film Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai was due to release soon.  So I refused Pyar Jhukta Nahin in spite of the fact that I liked the Pakistani play Aiyna (1977) on which it was based. And the film ended up catapulting Mithun Chakraborty into the big league, 'Rishi Kapoor said in his autobiography.

Produced by K C Bokadia and directed by Vijay Sadanah, Pyar Jhukta Nahin starred Padmini Kolhapure and Mithun Chakraborty in lead roles and featured Danny Denzongpa, Asrani and Bindu in pivotal roles. 


Released in 1985, Pyar Jhukta  Nahin became a big hit on its release,  catapulting Mithun Chakraborty into a big star. Infact,  it was the top grossing film of the year. 


A remake of the Pakistani play Aiyna, Pyar Jhukta Nahin was remade in several languages across the country .
