After much suspense, makers of the Akshay Kumar Katrina Kaif starrer Sooryavanshi have postponed the release of their film from its scheduled release date of April 30 due to the worsening covid situation in many states, including Maharashtra.

Trade sources said that the decision to postpone release of the mega starrer was taken after meeting by director Rohit Shetty with Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray yesterday.

Trade sources said that Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray appreciated Rohit’s action.

Mr. Uddhav Thackeray had a discussion with Rohit Shetty yesterday. In the meeting, he appreciated Rohit Shetty as he took the brave and difficult decision of postponing Sooryavanshi owing to the current COVID situation in the state, the trade sources said.

Sooryavanshi is the latest mega starrer whose release has been postponed due to the spurt in COVID-19 cases in many states in the country, including Maharashtra.

Release of Sooryavanshi postponed indefinitely

Earlier, makers of Haathi Mere Saathi, Bunty Aur Babli2 and Chehre had deferred the release of their films due to the worsening covid situation.

The postponement of release of the film comes a day after the Maharashtra government announced closure of cinema halls in the state till April 30 due to the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in the state.

Question mark on release of Satyamev Jayate 2, Radhe

Fresh restrictions imposed by the Maharashtra government till April 30 had put a question mark on release of mega starrers scheduled to release in cinemas in next few weeks, including Sooryavanshi Satyamev Jayate 2 and Radhe.

While Sooryavanshi was scheduled for release on April 30, Satyamev Jayate 2 is scheduled for release on May 13 While Radhe is set to release on May 14.

The present situation has adversely impacted the earnings of recently released Bollywood films Roohi, Mumbai Saga, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Saina.

The last few weeks have seen a sharp spurt in COVID-19 cases in many states in the country, including Maharashtra and Punjab.

The country recorded over 1 lakh cases of COVID during the last 24 hours, of which 57000 cases were recorded in Maharashtra alone.

With the situation remaining grim, it is only a matter of time before the makers of other mega starrers also postpone the release of the films.

Bollywood has several mega starrers lined up in the coming months,  which would be severely impacted if the covid situation in the country continues to worsen.
