Samantar 2 Review ; Edge of the seat thriller with virtuoso acts by Swwapnil Joshi & Nitish Bharadwaj

By Rajesh Ahuja

It is said that the course of life of all living beings moves on a path predetermined by a supreme authority.

What happens when the life of two individuals several decades apart moves on parallel paths? Can a knowledge of one's future life lead a person to avert his 'kaal'(fate). This is the theme of the  psychological thriller series Samantar being streamed on Mx player currently.

Samantar is an edge of the seat thriller with virtuoso acts by Swwapnil Joshi and Nitish Bharadwaj

Kumar Mahajan(Swwapnil Joshi) is a middle class person whose life is moving on a rocky terrain with no clear road in sight. Frustrated at the various setbacks in his life, Kumar Mahajan, on advise of his friend, visits a Swami (Jayant Sawarkar) to know about his future.

Swami is stunned on looking at his palm lines which bear an uncanny similarity to a person Sudarshan Chakrapani who had come to him years ago. In the quest for knowledge of his future, Kumar Mahajan sets out in search of Sudarshan chakrapani whose past life will provide Mahajan a peep into his future.
After a long search, Mahajan is able to find chakrapani and convinces him to tell him about what future holds for him. Chakrapani hands him'a dairy of the events in his life but warns him that he should  read one page at a time.
Armed with a knowledge of future events of his life, will Kumar Mahajan be able to rewrite his destiny?

Two persons living three decades apart, having the same fate lines and palm lines, resulting in their lives moving on parallel (Samanthar) lines is an interesting premise for a thriller.  Season 1 of Samantar ended on an interesting note wherein Kumar Mahajan is able to find Sudarshan Chakrapani after a long search.
The second season takes viewers through Kumar Mahajan 's journey to avert his 'kaal' or unfortunate happenings in his life after being equipped with Chakrapani's diary on the events of his life.

The screenplay of Samantar 2 is extremely gripping with surprising twists and turns at every step, keeping you on the edge of your seats. The story moves at an extremely fast pace, leaving viewers with no time to think. Adding to the element of intrigue in the show is the  simultaneous running of stories of Kumar Mahajan and Sudarshan Chakrapani to emphasize on their similarity. The  background score adds to the level of excitement and  thrill to the proceedings.

At the same time,  the show also sends across a message that it is one's Karma that determines one's fate that one cannot change what is destined for them

USP of the show are Performances by its main cast, especially Swwapnil Joshi,  Nitish Bharadwaj and Tejaswini(who plays Kumar Mahajan 's wife) .

Swwapnil Joshi is undoubtedly the star of the show with his virtuoso act as Kumar Mahajan who is looking to take his life out of the Rocky terrain on which it is currently moving.  Swwapnil perfectly  embodies the frustration of Kumar Mahajan of not being able to take charge of his life and aggression of a person looking to write his own destiny.  Nitish Bharadwaj comes up with another brilliant act as Sudarshan Chakrapani,  a person whose Karma will determine the destiny of Kumar Mahajan. His bowls you over with the nonchalance of Sudarshan chakrapani and his acknowledgment of the inevitability of fate .

Tejaswini Pandit impresses with her role of Kumar Mahajan 's wife who is steadfast in her support for her husband despite the various unfortunate happenings in his life.  Sai Tamhankar is at her sultry best in her double role as Sundara and Meera.

Ganesh Revdekar is endearing as Kumar Mahajan's friend who is steadfast  in his support to Kumar Mahajan despite the setbacks in his life.

The rest of the cast, including Jayant Sawarkar as the swami, Vikas Hande and Nana Joshi lend able support.

In a nutshell,  Samantar is an edge of the seat psychological thriller which is uplifted by the virtuoso acts by Swwapnil Joshi and Nitish Bharadwaj.

My rating: 4/5 ; one for the story,  one for screenplay,  one for background score and one for performances by Swwapnil Joshi,  Nitish Bharadwaj and Tejaswini Pandit.
