Shekhar Kapur goes down memory lane,shares still with Shabana Azmi from 70s film Jeena Yahaan

Filmmaker Shekhar Kapur today went down memory lane to share a throwback picture from the 70s film Jeena Yahaan, which featured him in the lead opposite Shabana Azmi.

Sharing the throwback picture with his fans,  Shekhar Kapur reminisced that working in the film was a great experience for him.

Shekhar Kapur reminisces about his 1979 film Jeena Yahaan 





Released in 1979, Jenna Yahaan, directed by Basu Chatterjee and produced by N.P. Ali under Jamu Pictures,  is based on story Ekhane Aakash Neyi by Hindi writer Manu Bhandari..

Besides Shabana Azmi and Shekhar Kapur,  Jeena Yahan also featured
 Amol Palekar, Zarina Wahab, Vidya Sinha and Desh Maheshwari in key roles.

Jeena Yahaan juxtaposes life in a metro with human relationships in small town India.

Shabana Azmi played  the role of a modern, self-reliant bahu, Lekha, who goes to her husband’s place for a break from bustling metropolis but discovers that under open skies and amidst green fields, the world of a woman is claustrophobic.

The film won the Critics’ Award at the 27th Filmfare Awards.

The film had music by Salil Choudhry. 

Before making his name as a director with Hindi films like Masoom, Mr India and Bandit Queen and English film Elizabeth, Shekhar Kapur dabbled as an actor in television series  Khandaan and Hindi films like Ishq Ishq Ishq,  Udaan, Jeena Yahan and Gawaahi.
