Mili, Phone Bhoot have a poor opening at box office

After a below average response to the religious drama Ram Setu at the box office, horror comedy Phone bhoot and survival drama Mili took a poor opening this week.

Despite the presence of Katrina Kaif,  Phone bhoot failed to enthuse audiences,  earning just Rs 2 cr on its opening day. 

Directed by Gurmmeet Singh and produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani under the banner of Excel Entertainment, Phone  Bhoot stars Katrina Kaif, Ishaan Khattar,  Siddhant Chaturvedi and Jackie Shroff.

Released after a considerable delay due to COVID-19,  Phone Bhoot did not have much hype surrounding it.

The film did well in Mumbai, Delhi and NCR . However,  as has been the case with most films released post the pandemic,  Phone Bhoot has had a lacklustre response despite the presence of a bankable star like Katrina Kaif.

The other release of the week,  Mili, had a woeful opening,  earning Rs 40 lakh on its first day.

A survival thriller film, Mili, directed by Mathukutty Xavier, follows the happenings with the protagonist Mili Naudiyal, who gets stuck in a freezer. It is the story of how she fights to stay alive.

Mili is the remake of  2019 Malayalam-language film Helen, directed by Mathukutty Xavier.

Produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios, the film stars Janhvi Kapoor in the  title role.  It also stars Sunny Kaushal and Manoj Pahwa in pivotal roles.

The had a low key release in cinemas.

The poor opening of Phone Bhoot and Mili follows the less than expected opening by Akshay Kumar Jacqueline Fernandez Nushratt Bhharruccha starrer Ram Setu.  After a rocking start, Ram Setu saw a sharp drop in its earnings in subsequent days,  earning just Rs 64.15 cr in its opening Diwali weekend.
