When Dev Anand sought Dilip Kumar's help to cast Mumtaaz for Hare Rama Hare Krishna

By Rajesh Ahuja

Tales of friendship and camaraderie between Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor and Dev Anand- the legendary Trio of the Hindi film industry during the Golden Era of Indian cinema- are fodder for millions of cinelovers across the country.

One such story of how Dilip Kumar helped his friend and contemporary Dev Anand when the latter wanted to cast Mumtaaz in the 70s musical hit Hare Rama Hare Krishna was recently narrated by Dilip Kumar's wife and yesteryear's Bollywood actress Saira Banu.

In a recent post on Instagram, Saira Banu recalled how Dilip Kumar bailed out his friend Dev Anand when he was faced with a problem in casting Mumtaaz for 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' due to a ceiling imposed by the film industry that a star could not work in more than six films at a time.

Dev Anand sought Dilip Kumar's help to cast Mumtaaz in Hare Rama Hare Krishna

'At one time there was a film ceiling in the film industry that one Star could not work in more than six films. At that time, Dev Sahib wanted to cast Mumtaaz for 'Hare Rama Hare Krishna' and there was a furore that Dev Sahib could not cast her.

Dev had already booked Kathmandu in Nepal and his crew and unit were waiting there for the shoot. Dev sought Dilip Sahib's help, and Dilip Sahib went about trying to sort things out for him to fly safely from the Bombay airport to Kathmandu, 'Saira posted on Instagram.

Saira Banu said that despite a tense situation at the airport,  Dilip Kumar adeptly dealt with the situation to facilitate Dev Anand's shoot.

'At the airport, there was a huge noisy crowd and a very tense situation. Very adeptly,  Dilip Sahib dealt with the situation, much to the relief of Dev Sahib, and he was comfortable proceeding with his shoot without any hassles, 'Saira Banu said.

Hare Rama Hare Krishna starred Dev Anand, Mumtaaz and Zeenat Aman in lead roles
