The enforcement of lockdown like restrictions in Maharashtra from tonight for 15 days is likely to disrupt the shooting of television shows, digital series and movies in the tinsel town of Mumbai.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray yesterday announced that due to a sharp spurt in COVID-19 cases in the state, lockdown like restrictions would be enforced in the state from tonight for a period of 15 days in an effort to check the spread of the virus.
Section 144 will be in force in the state from 8 pm tonight, bringing to a halt shooting for television , web series and films.
Trade sources said that the fresh restrictions by the Maharashtra government will force makers of several on air television shows to halt shoot for the shows, leading to a loss of revenues for the producers of these shows.
It will also impact livelihood of thousands of people comprising the cast and crew of these shows.

Spurt in COVID-19 cases has caused postponement of mega starrers
There has been a sharp spurt in COVID-19 cases in many states in the country, including Maharashtra, over the past few weeks, resulting in makers of films like Haathi Mere Saathi, Bunty Aur Babli2 , Chehre and Sooryavanshi deferring the release of their films due to the worsening covid situation.
The country recorded 1.84 lakh cases of COVID during the last 24 hours, of which 61000 cases were recorded in Maharashtra alone.

The Maharashtra government earlier in the month announced closure of cinema halls in the state till April 30 due to the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases in the state.
Fresh restrictions imposed by the Maharashtra government till April 30 had put a question mark on release of mega starrers scheduled to release in cinemas in next few weeks, including Satyamev Jayate 2 and Radhe.
While Satyamev Jayate 2 is scheduled for release on May 13 Radhe is set to release on May 14.
With the situation remaining grim, it is only a matter of time before the makers of other mega starrers also postpone the release of the films.
Bollywood has several mega starrers lined up in the coming months, which would be severely impacted if the covid situation in the country continues to worsen.
