National Award-winning actress Surekha Sikri dies of cardiac arrest, Bollywood & politicians pay tributes

Three time National Award-winning actress Surekha Sikri died at the age of 75 after suffering a Cardiac arrest.
Surekha Sikri, who was seen in films like Badhai Ho(a film which got her a National award), Zubeida, Tamas and Badhaai Ho and television shows like Balika Vadhu, died in Mumbai after suffering a Cardiac arrest.

A statement by her manager said that Surekha Sikri had been unwell since a long time.
She was battling health complications after suffering from a second brain stroke: last year.
The actress suffered a brain stroke last year and a paralytic stroke earlier in 2018.
She was surrounded by her well wishers and caregivers, her manager said..
Soon after the news of her death, Celebrities from the world of entertainment and politics expressed their condolences on the death of Surekha Sikri.
Among those who expressed condolences on her death were Deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, actors Siddharth Shukla, swara Bhasker, Dia Mirza, Randeep Hooda and Anupam Kher .

Expressing condolence on death of Surekha Sikri, Deputy chief minister of Delhi Manish Sisodia said, 'Few actors are as versatile & accomplished as Surekha Sikri ji. She was an institution. Young actors must watch her work. RIP .'

West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences Surekha Sikri 's death.
'Saddened by the demise of veteran actor Surekha Sikri. Known for her graceful & versatile performances, she will be missed deeply. Heartfelt condolences to her family & fans,' Mamta Banerjee said.
Expressing his condolence, Anupam Kher said, ''I pray for peace to the departed soul of legend, #SurekhaSikri, and strength to the family and friends to cope with the loss. We all grew up watching her light up the screen in so many roles that helped in defying stereotypes. We've lost a brilliant actor. '

Condoling her death, actress Aditi Rao Hyderi said, 'We are so lucky to have experienced your magic on screen… Rest In Peace Surekha ji '
NFDC India also expressed condolences on Surekha Sikri 's death.
'Surekha Sikri, National award winner, an actor par excellence, enriched cinema with her presence on screen. The actor's repertoire of work with NFDC includes films like Mammo, Naseem, Nazar, Salim Langde Pe Mat Ro, Raghu Romeo to name a few. Condolences to her admirers,'the NFDC said.
Manoj Bajpayee also expressed condolences on the death of Surekha Sikri.

Condoling Surekha Sikri 's death, Dia Mirza described Surekha Sikri as an artist par excellence and an "inspiration" for generations.
"There is no one like her. Absolutely no one. What an extraordinary woman. An artist par excellence. Those eyes and that smile. Her craft will inspire generations of performers. Was lucky to have the chance to witness her magic in person,'she said.
Expressing her condolences, actress Pooja Bhatt said,''she was a force of nature if ever there was one. Hence I won't say rest in peace but rage in peace Surekha ji. As you did, during your time on earth!"
"Rest in peace, Surekha Sikri ji," tweeted Randeep Hooda.
Ashish Vidyarthi also condoled death of Surekha Sikri.
"Surekha Sikri ji is no more... Have grown watching her performances at the NSD Repertory Company... She was unique in her work and in life... Fond memories of listening to her heavy near baritone voice over the few words she spoke at Mandi house... People live to leave,'he said.
A renowned theatre, film and television actress, Surekha Sikri made her debut in the 1978 political drama film Kissa Kursi Ka and went on to play supporting roles in numerous Hindi and Malayalam films, as well as in television shows.
Sikri received several awards, including three National Film Awards and a Filmfare Award.
Sikri won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actress thrice, for her roles in Tamas (1988), Mammo (1995) and Badhaai Ho (2018). She was awarded the Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Negative Role in 2008 for her work in the primetime soap opera Balika Vadhu and won the Indian Telly Award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role for the same show in 2011. In addition, she won the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1989 for her contributions towards Hindi theater.
Her last release, Badhaai Ho (2018) won her lot of appreciation from viewers and critics.
Surekha Sikri is survived by her son Rahul Sikri, who lives in Mumbai and works as an artist.
Her husband, Hemant Rege, died due to heart failure on 20 October 2009.
