Bell Bottom continues average run at box office, earns Rs 18.75 crore in its opening week

While the film earned Rs 13 crore during its four day opening weekend,  it witnessed a sharp drop in its collections during the week days.

There was a sharp drop in earnings of Bell Bottom from Delhi and NCR,  Gujarat  and Punjab during the week days.

Infact,  the film has seen a continuous decline in its revenues during the weekdays. While it earned Rs 1.90 cr on Monday,  its earnings dropped to Rs 1.40 crore on Tuesday,  Rs 1.30 crore on Wednesday and Rs 1.15 crore on Thursday.

The earnings of Rs 18.75 crore for Bell Bottom during opening week are far below the expectations of the film trade, which had been expecting the film to earn at least Rs 30 to Rs 40 crore in its opening week.

The average earnings of the film during its opening week have been attributed to the theatres across India operating at just 50 percent occupancy.  Further, the box office earnings of the film have also been impacted by the closure of cinema halls in Maharashtra,  which forms a big market for Hindi films.

Bell Bottom,  the first big starrer to release in theatres post pandemic, has been  Touted in trade circles as a film that would draw audiences back to the cinemas after a prolonged period of shutdown of theatres due to Covid.

However, Bell Bottom had earned  averages figures  of Rs 2.75 cr to Rs 3 cr in first three days   of its release. The collections saw a sharp jump on Sunday to Rs 4.50 crore, taking its  earnings on the  opening weekend to 13 crore (nett) and Rs 15 cr (gross).

Bell Bottom is the first  big starrer to release in theatres after a gap of nearly 17 months.

Promos and trailer of Bell Bottom have  generated tremendous buzz among cinelovers ahead of its release. Bell Bottom released  on 800 to 900 screens across the country,  including 125 screens in Delhi and NCR.

This week witnesses the release of  big starrers Chehre,  a psychological thriller featuring superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi in the lead. The coming weeks will see release of Thalaivi, biopic on life of late Tamil Naidu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

Thalaivi will hit theatres on September 10.

An unprecedented surge in covid cases in the country in March  resulted in  makers of mega starrers Haathi Mere Saathi, Bunty Aur Babli2, Chehre, Sooryavanshi and Satyamev Jayate 2 postponing release of these films till a later date.

The Covid situation  adversely impacted the earnings of the films released in theatres during the period,  including Roohi, Mumbai Saga, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Saina.

An Espionage thriller,  Bell Bottom is about a officer from the secret service (code named  Bell Bottom) orchestrate an operation to rescue several people held hostage by four terrorists on a flight. One of the most awaited films this year, Bell Bottom has been directed by Ranjit M Tewari and produced by Pooja Entertainment and Emmay Entertainment.

Bell Bottom stars Akshay Kumar in the lead with Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi in other prominent roles.

The film was earlier scheduled to release on July 27. However,  due to uncertainty on reopening of theatres,  Akshay Kumar announced that the film will release in cinemas on August 19.

The news of the film's theatrical release has cheered the industry as well the audiences.
