A visual spectacle awaits viewers as period drama The Empire premieres on Disney Hotstar on August 27

A grand spectacle awaits viewers this August on the Disney Hotstar as the much awaited period drama The Empire premieres on the platform .

The story of Mughal king Babar battling against enemies, fate, family, death and even himself, in search of his kingdom, The Empire will premiere on Disney Hotstar on August 27.

Featuring Kunal Kapoor in the lead with Shabana Azmi,  Drishti Dhami and Dino Morea in key roles, The Empire promises to be  one of the grandest period drama on the digital screen.

The trailer of the period drama,  released by Disney Hotstar today, treats viewers to a visual spectacle.  The  trailer takes viewers through the journey of  the Mughal King (Kunal Kapoor)as he fights his family, dummies and fate to establish his kingdom.

A scene in the trailer has Kunal Kapoor saying that he has been fighting enemies and death since the age of 14. 'Isse Aage kya'(where do I go from here?),'he says. 

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi,  television actress Drishti Dhami and Bollywood actor Dono Morea are seen in pivotal roles in the trailer of the series .

The trailer of the period drama promises a visual spectacle for the viewers with battle sequences mounted on a grand scale.

Directed by Mitakshara Kumar, The Empire, based on Alex Rutherford's Empire of the Moghuls: Raiders from the North, traces the origins of the Mughal Dynasty with Kunal Kapoor featuring as Mughal emperor Babar, who laid the foundation of the dynasty.

The epic period-action drama, created by filmmaker-producer Nikkhil Advani,  follows the story of a warrior, adventurer, survivor, and a king.

Kunal Kapoor has said that  The Empire is the perfect platform for him to make his digital debut .

'It is something that I never really had a chance to do before.It has been an interesting experience. I don't think I have been part of something that has been mounted on this big a scale. It is going to be an interesting experience for the audience because, primarily, it is a visual spectacle, the kind of which you have not seen on any platform in this country," Arjun Kapoor said in a virtual press conference to  unveil Disney+Hotstar's new slate.of shows for the coming months.

The period drama  also marks actress Drishti Dhami 's return to the  screen after a long hiatus .

The Empire was among the series of web series in the Disney Hotstar's slate of shows for the coming months,  unveiled at a press conference recently.
