By Rajesh Ahuja
In politics, what is visible to you is different from the actual reality, says Gaurav, a character in the web series City of dreams being streamed on Disney hotstar, as he cautions Wasim Khan(Eijaz Khan) , a policeman turned politician, not to take things or people on their face value.
This one line forms the crux of the web series City of Dreams, which is streaming in its second season on Disney Hotstar.
Season 2 of City of Dreams is an intriguing tale of political poweplay |
Season 2 of City of Dreams, a web series that dealis with political feud within the powerful Gaikwad family of Maharashtra, continues from where the Season 1 left off.
Season 1 of City of Dreams took viewers through the feud within the Gaikwad family, which erupts after an assassination attempt on a head of the family Amey Rao Gaikwad, a political figure. A struggle for power, blurring the lines between moral and immoral, formed the core of narrative of the show.
Into the second season of City of Dreams, the drama notches up as the feud increases within the Gaikwad family .Poornima Gaikwad, the daughter of Maharashtra strongman Amey Rao Gaikwad, is now the interim Chief Minister and the head of Maharashtra Jan Shakti Party (MJS), which she now wishes to control.
Soon Ameya Rao Gaikwad realizes that it will not be an easy task to override his daughter who has learned politics at his feet and so to outwit her, he plans to do the unexpected and unpredictable.
The series show Poornima Gaikwad and her father, Ameya Rao Gaikwad locking horns to claim their power.
Season 1 took us through the race between Poornima and her brother Ashish to stake claim to the political crown left vacant by the fatal attack on Amey Rao Gaikwad.
Season 2 deals with the race of oneupmanship between Amey Rao gaikwad and his daughter Poornima.
In the new Season of the political drama , viewers are treated to another intriguing tale of powerplay in the corridors of Maharashtra poltics as Amey Rao Gaikwad (Atul Kulkarni) and his daughter Poornima Gaikwad (Priya Bapat) battle for the political crown.
It is a no holds barred war between the two as the Strongman Amey Rao Gaikwad is determined to unseat his daughter Poornima from the seat of the CM
As they say , everything is justified in love and war. In this case, it seems that Amey Rao Gaikwad will go to any lengths to reclaim the crown from his daughter Poornima.
Infact at a point in the web series a former associate of Amey Rao Gaikwad is heard saying that it is a situation where Amey is trying to cut his own nose to save his face
The story runs like a engrossing thriller with surprising twists and turns awaiting the audience at every juncture
Screenplay is gripping , keeping you glued to the proceedings.
The director Nagesh Kukunoor has managed to effectively bring out the Naked display of power that goes on in the corridors of politics
Atul Kulkarni is brilliant as Amey Rao Gaikwad, the old political war horse, who silently goes about the task of unseating his daughter Poornima from the chair of the Chief Minister.
He looks every bit the ruthless politician who will Stop at nothing to usurp the crown that he believes rightfully belongs to him even if it means conspiring against his daughter.
Priya Bapat is impressive as the fledgling politician who assumes the position of Chief Minister . She effectively portrays a woman with a steak of vulnerability who puts up a strong facade amid sharp attacks from adversaries, including her father, who are out to unseat her from the chair
After an impressive show in season 1, Eijaz Khan fails to leave an impact in season 2. Sachin Pilgaonkar is quite effective as Gurav
In short, season 2 of City of dreams is another intriguing tale of poweplay in politics with an outstanding performance by Atul Kulkarni and impressive show by Priya Bapat and Sachin Pilgaonkar.
