Sudeep D Mukherjee makes his directorial debut with action drama Chattan

Chattan, which releases in cinemas on September 22, stars 90s actor Jeet Upendra in the lead along with Rajanika Ganguly.

The film also stars veteran actor Tej Sapru,  Brij Gopal and Shiva in pivotal roles.

A USP of the film is that it is an action drama with a flavor of the 90s.

According to the director Sudeep D Mukherjee,  Chattan is a film which has a backdrop,  music, costumes and Dialogues imbued with a flavour of films in the 90s.

'Before embarking on Chattan,  I was clear that I wanted to keep the backdrop of the film, it's characterisation, costumes, language, music , technical  aspects and treatment in keeping with films of 90s era. In my film, you willnot comes across. Drones, modern trolleys and liberal  use of VFX which one sees in the film's made today,'Sudeep Mukherjee said in a chat.

Talking about the film,  the debutant filmmaker said, 'the hero of the film 'Chattan', made in the flavour of 90s cinema, is an honest, brave police officer. The film shows  how much fight  he and his family have to wage against the system for the sake of truth and performing his duty.

Chattan shows the hardships he has to go through due to his abiding commitment to law and  duty, and the sacrifices he has to undergo in course of his fight against the system.''

Asked the reason for going for lesser known actors like Jeet Upendra Rajanika Ganguly for the film,  Sudeep D Mukherjee said ,'I feel that the main USP of Chattan is its concept and the unique treatment given to it. As far as going with lesser known actors rather than established faces for the film, I strongly believe that the film's run on their story and content.
Audiences in the previous decades as well as in the current Era go for content driven films rather than those featuring big stars. Also, since the characters in my film belong to a definite period,  I did not want to cast actors trapped in a set image as it would not do justice to the story. Therefore,  I chose Jeet Upendra and Rajanika Ganguly for my film. Both the actors have done justice to their characters.  They are professional actors who are well versed with the language of the film and the camera angles ''

Mukherjee said that veteran actors Tej Sapru,  Brij Gopal and Shiva have also come up with good performances.

Having served as an assistant to prolific filmmakers like Ranjan Kumar Singh, Lekh Tandon and Prakash Mehra,  Sujeet Mukherjee was all set to make his directorial debut with the Sanjay Kapoor Ayesha Zulka starrer Karvat several years ago. However,  due to some unavoidable reasons,  the film got shelved.

Years later, he decided to make his directorial debut with an action drama based on the 90s flavour.

Chattan has been financed by Mukherjee's father in law N N Ganguly while Rajanika Ganguly produced the film.

Jeet Upendra,  Rajanika Ganguly,  Tej Sapru, Brij Gopal and Shiva were roped in as actors in the film.

Besides being the director of the film,  Sudeep Mukherjee is also the writer,  dance director,  music director and editor of the film.

'Those who live, eat, drink and dream cinema are expected to be proficient in all areas of filmmaking.  Following the example of legendary filmma9like Raj Kapoor,  Guru Dutt, Raj Khosla and B R Chopra,  who were involved in all areas of filmmaking like direction, script writing,  music and editing,  Taking inspiration from these filmmakers,  I have also taken up responsibilities in several departments in the film.  Fortunately,  everything has gone on well,'the filmmaker said.

Chattan releases in cinemas on September 22.
