Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan had a relationship marked by mutual admiration

The mutual admiration between Amitabh Bachchan and Dilip Kumar began after veteran actor Om Prakash,  a close friend of Dilip Kumar, sang praises of Amitabh Bachchan's performance before the Bollywood thespian.

''Sahib got to hear of Amitabh Bachchan from his friend actor Om Prakash Ji,'Saira Banu said in a post on Instagram.

'OH Yousuf Jaan I am so amazed to find a young man, an actor for the first time in my career who has the same intense, piercing look in his eyes as YOU,'Saira Banu quoted Om Prakash as telling his friend Dilip Kumar.

'There began a mutual admiration between Sahib and Amit Ji.. Amit Ji said Sahib is an exceptionally good human being. He always plays the father figure for anybody seeking his guidance.

Amit Ji once said, ''the history of Indian cinema will be 'before Dilip Sahib ' and 'after Dilip Sahib 'because of his impeccable presence. When you measure a journey,  you never change the milestone.  Dilip Sahib is that milestone in our industry, 'Saira Banu said.

Saira Banu recalled that Dilip Kumar was full of admiration for Amitabh Bachchan's work, especially the latter's performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Black'.

'Sahib has lauded Amitabh's work personally and publicly. At the premiere of BLACK,  he waited outside the theatre until Amit Ji emerged, and then walked upto him, held his hands warmly and looked into his eyes for what seemed like eternity.

Amitabh says,'I did not speak a word, but his eyes spoke the most eloquent words that anyone ever spoke to me,'Saira Banu recounted.

'Later, whenever Sahib got hospitalized,  it was so kind of Amit Ji that after his shooting,  he would pay a surprise visit to Sahib at the hospital in the evening.
Sahib definitely felt better in his company and got home soon. This was always a memorable happening, ''Saira Banu said.

Considered as two powerhouses of Indian cinema,  Dilip Kumar and Amitabh Bachchan featured together in Ramesh Sippy's Shaktithe first and only film to feature the two actors together on screen.[

One of the greatest films in the history of Indian cinema, Shakti  went on to win four Filmfare Awards, for Best Film, Best Screenplay, Best Sound Editing, and Best Actor for Kumar.
