Playing Aurangzeb in Chhatrasal was a great experience; Ashutosh Rana

He has given to Indian Cinema some of most iconic villains in its history - be it the role of a transgender woman in Sangharsh or a serial killer in Dushman.

After playing such iconic adversaries in Hindi Cinema,  actor Ashutosh Rana will now be seen playing the role of the legendary Mughal emperor Aurangzeb in the upcoming period web series Chhatrasaal, which  premieres on Mx player on July 29.



Ashutosh Rana says that playing the role of Aurangzeb in Chhatrasal has been a great experience 



Ahead of the premiere of the web series,  Ashutosh Rana said that playing the role of the legendary emperor, whose very mention send shivers down the spine of Indian rulers, has been a  great experience.

'Historical dramas are journeys into the past . So they always take more effort. I’ve always found period dramas and biopics fascinating. They’re one of my favourite genres to watch. For me  playing Alamgir Aurangzeb was a great process,'Ashutosh Rana said.

Talking about the upcoming web series,  the actor said, 'I’ve always believed that a great story must have a courageous hero but his victory is celebrated even more so if he’s facing a larger than life opponent. Chhatrasal’s magnanimous victory is still cherished because of the rival he faced and the uphill battle he undertook to fight for Bundelkhand’s independence.'

MX Player’s upcoming web show, Chhatrasal is a first of its kind historical drama based on the life of the unsung warrior King Chhatrasal of Bundelkhand.

Rooted in the 16th– 17th century, this epic saga takes us back in time to relive the diabolical rule of Aurangzeb, who obsesses over ruling all of India and follows the life of a brave heart who stood up to his tyranny and challenged his rule. 

The historical drama will take viewers through King Chhatrasal's rebellion  against Aurangzeb’s tyrannical rule.

It will show how Chhatrasal  waged a war against the Mughal emperor to free his kingdom, Bundelkhand.

 Starring Jitin Gulati as Maharaja Chhatrasal, this historical drama is directed by Anadii Chaturvedi and will additionally see Vaibhavi Shandilya, Manish Wadhwa, Anushka Luhar, Rudra Soni in pivotal roles.

Neena Gupta will play the role of the narrator for this period drama.

The show goes live on MX Player on July 29. 

Mx player had earlier this month unveiled the trailer of the period drama.

Actor Jitin Gulati , who earlier played an important role in the period drama Prithvi Vallabh says that it is an honour to play the role of a historical figure like Chhatrasal.

“It is an honour to be playing the role of such a significant historical figure. Some stories deserve to be told and this is one of them. Chhatrasal was a hero from medieval India, who was the flag bearer of the fight for independence at a time when no one dared to defy the Mughal empire and its large army. It is through stories like this that our rich history and heritage prevail. I hope viewers are inspired by the tale of this unsung warrior,'he said.
