More than a decade ago, the quartet of Farhan Akhtar,  Luke Kenny, Purab Kohli and Arjun Rampal weaved magic on cinegoers in the musical drama Rock on , that became a trendsetter  in Bollywood  with its inspirational tale of members of a musical band reuniting after a gap of ten years to realise their   dream of establishing a successful  musical  rock band.

As the iconic musical drama completes 13 years of its release this year ,  Bollywood actor Arjun Rampal went down memory lane to reminisce fond memories during the making of the film.

In a chat  on the occasion,  Arjun Rampal , who played Joseph Mascarenhas, the guitarist of the musical band named Magik, in the 2008 film, said that working in the film was an incredible experience for him.

'Working in Rock on was a  memorable experience for me. The character of Joseph Macarenhas (Joe) is one of my most favourite characters . Emotions experience by Joe in the film were just so pure.

Also relationship of Joe with his family had a realistic feet about it,'Arjun Rampal said.

Arjun said that when Farhan Akhtar,  who produced the film under his banner of Excel entertainment,  had offered him the film, he was completely bowled over by the script.

'Farhan met me to offer  the film. When I read the script,  I was completely bowled over by it,'Arjun said.

Arjun said that the film has a timeless feel to it.

'The best thing about Rock On is that it has a timeless feel to it . One  can watch it even today,'he said.

Arjun Rampal won appreciation from audiences as well as critics for his performance in the film. The film fetched him the National film award for his performance as Joe.

'Winning the national award was a big high. I remember sitting in my house and someone telling me that I had won the National award. I thought he was joking and then I switched on the television and the news was flashing that I had won the National award. I was ecstatic,'the actor said.

The actor said that Rock on had an inspirational quality about it

'The film had an inspirational feel about. What was incredible that so many members of Music bands who had given up on music reunited with band members after watching Rock on, 'he said.

Written and directed by Abhishek Kapoor, Rock on,  produced by Farhan Akhtar,  is the story of amembers of the Mumbai-based grunge rock band, "Magik" (formed in 1998) who reunite in 2008 , ten years after they failed to realize their dream of establishing a successful musical rock band.

Released in  2008, Rock on featured  Farhan Akhtar,  Arjun Rampal,  Luke Kenny, Purab Kohli,  Prachi Desai and Shahana Goswami in key roles.

The film  marked the Bollywood debut of Farhan Akhtar and Prachi Desai . It featured Farhan Akhtar,  Luke Kenny, Purab Kohli and Arjun Rampal as members of the musical rock band Magik.

Rock on won several accolades for its performance,  story, direction and music.

It won seven Filmfare Awards, including award for Best Supporting Actor for Arjun Rampal.  Arjun Rampal also won the National film award for Best Supporting Actor for Rock on 

The film was archived at the Academy Film Archive library.

A sequel to the film was released in 2016 but was unsuccessful at the box office. 

 Produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani, Rock on 2 starred Arjun Rampal, Akhtar, Shraddha Kapoor, Purab Kohli, Shashank Arora, and Prachi Desai, in lead roles.
