Amid the growing uncertainty on the continued operation of cinema halls in the country due to spurt in Covid-19 cases in many states, the makers of the multilingual film RRR have postponed the release of their film.

Release of RRR postponed amid uncertainty on operation of cinema halls following spurt in Covid-19 cases

The postponement of the release of RRR,  coming close on the heels of the makers of the Shahid Kapoor Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey deferring the release of the film due to sharp rise in Covid-19 cases leading to closure of cinema halls in Delhi,  puts a question mark on the release of big budget films like Prithviraj,  Radhe Shyam and Attack scheduled in coming weeks.

In a statement issued today, makers of RRR said, 'in spite of our relentless efforts,  some situations are beyond our control.  As  any states are contemplating closing theatres, we are left with no choice but to ask you to hold on to your excitement.

'Keeping the best interests of all the involved parties in mind, we are forced to postpone our film. Our sincere thanks to all the fans and audience for their unconditional love. We promised to bring back the glory of Indian  cinema at the right time.  We Will.'

The makers of RRR had earlier said that the film will hit the cinema screens on its scheduled date of January 7 as the closure of cinema halls in Delhi is not likely to impact collections of the Tamil and Telugu versions of the film.

However,  subsequent to the closure of cinema halls in Delhi,  the situation regarding Covid-19 has worsened in many dates, including Mumbai and Chennai,  threatening to force closure of cinema halls in other states.

Uncertainty looms on release of Prithviraj, Attack and Radhe Shyam

Postponement of Jersey and RRR creates uncertainty on the release of upcoming films like Prithviraj,  Attack and Radhe Shyam.

Uncertainty on release of Yashraj films Prithviraj and Attack

While Prithviraj is scheduled for release in cinemas on January 21, Radhe Shyam is scheduled for release on January 14 and the John Abraham starrer Attack is scheduled for release in cinemas on January 28.

Infact,  trade experts said that after the worsening Covid situation in the country,  there are strong chances of  postponement of the Yashraj films big budget venture Prithviraj.

Last 24 hour have witnessed a sharp rise in Covid-19 cases in the country to over 22000, a 35 per cent increase since yesterday.

Trade experts feel that the unprecedented rise in Covid-19 cases could send the film release calender haywire like it did during the second wave of Covid-19.

The fresh restrictions imposed in several states is sure to impact theatrical collections in these areas,  forcing the makers of upcoming films to mull a postponement of the film's or deciding to release the film directly on OTT.

Several big budget  films are scheduled for release in the coming weeks like    RRR , Radhe Shyam, Prithviraj ,Attack , Badhai Do , Gangubhai Kathiawadi ,Jayeshbhai Jordaar ,Bachchan Pandey , Shamshera and Bhool Bhulaiya 2 .
