Sara,Tapsee Pannu,Kangana,Richa Chadha,Vidya balan,Rinku Rajguru path-breaking female performers in 2021
By Rajesh Ahuja
In an year filled with gloom for the film industry with shutdown of theatres being the order of the day and digital platforms becoming the new destination for entertainment lovers, these actresses lit up the lives of film lovers with their glowing performances and their inspirational acts in many films released during the year either on OTT or the big screen.
In what has turned out to be a lacklustre year for Bollywood, actresses Sara Ali Khan, Tapsee Pannu, Kangana Ranaut ,Richa Chadha, Rinku Rajguru and Vidya balan left a mark on the hearts of cinema lovers with their performances in films like Atrangi Re, Haseen Dilrubba, Rashmi rocket, Madam Chief minister, Halla Bol and Sherni.
These actresses created an impact on the cinelovers with their natural performances and their inspirational acts.
While Sara Ali Khan bowled over the viewers with her freewheeling act as Rinku Sooryavanshi Shetty in Atrangi Re , streaming on Disney Hotstar, Tapsee Pannu left a mark with her inspirational act in sports Rashmi Rocket.
Kangana Ranaut impressed with her performance as late Tamil Nadu Chief minister Jayalalithaa in Thalaivi while Richa Chadha made viewers sit up and take notice of her performance in Madam Chief minister.
Rinku Rajguru made a mark as the rebellious Asha Surve in 200 Halla Ho while Vidya Balan impressed as the strong woman forest officer in web series Sherni.
Sara Ali Khan as Rinku Sooryavanshi Shetty in Atrangi Re
Sara Ali Khan surprised the audience with a freewheeling act as the feisty and rebellious girl Rinku Sooryavanshi who continues to hold on to her emotions for her parents even after their death. Sara Ali Khan is clearly the soul of this path-breaking love story, which has been getting rave reviews from audiences as well as critics ever since it began streaming on Disney Hotstar.
Sara Ali Khan stole the thunder from accomplished actors like Dhanush and Akshay Kumar. It is definitely a performance deserving of an award
Tapsee Pannu as Rashmi in Rashmi rocket
As the strong willed Rashmi, who decides to fight against gender testing in sports, Tapsee Pannu put in a spirited performance .
As the small town girl with a steely resolve whether it be about her initial decision not to participate in sporting events or as an athlete disparaged by the sports association who decides to fight against the discriminatory practice of Gender testing in sports , Tapsee impressed as a girl with a never say die spirit.
Coming in a film, which highlights the issue of Gender testing in sports, which is seen as discriminatory towards women sports persons, Tapsee Pannu's performance in Rashmi Rocket is one of the highlights of the year.

Kangana Ranaut as Jayalalithaa in Thalaivi
After Mannikarnika- the Queen of Jhansi, Kangana recieved plaudits as former chief minister of Tamil Nadu Jayalalithaa. Kangana Ranaut's performance in Thalaivi , which showed the journey of meteoric rise of Jayalalithaa from a small time actress to becoming the chief minister of Tamil Nadi, left an incredible impact on the cinelovers.
Kangana perfectly portrays the rebellious Jayalalithaa who challenges patriarchy at every stage of her life.
Clearly, among the topnotch performances of the year.
Richa Chadha in Madam Chief minister
Richa Chadha attracted notice with her power packed performance in Madam Chief Minister, a fictional account of the life of a powerful Dalit leader, who goes on to become the first woman chief minister of India’s most populous and politically charged state Uttar Pradesh.
As the strong and tactical leader who manages to hold on to the seat of power amid constant attempts by her opponents to ensure her downfall, Richa Chadha impressed with her virtuoso act in the film, losely inspired by the life of Bahujan Samaj party chief Mayawati.
Madam Chief minister is streaming on Amazon Prime Video
Rinku Rajguru as Asha Surve in 200 Halla Ho
Rinku Rajguru created an impression in 200 Halla Ho, a film that highlights the need to address inequalities in society.
As Asha Surve, whose firm stand against the years of caste oppression , inspires the women of a bastee to raise their voice against years of opression,Rinku Rajguru came up with a spirited act. Asha Surve taking the first step to stand up against the opression by Balli (Sahuil khattar) inspired the women of the Bastee to speak out against the injustice meted out to them over the years.
200 Halla Ho, streaming on Zee5, seeks to address the burning issue of systematic opression faced by women from lower caste in several areas of the country. The film highlights that despite the Constitution of India guaranteeing Equality for all Indian citizens regardless of caste or region, Equality for people of all castes remains just in the pages of the Preamble. And that the reality in places other than the metro cities remains grim and vastly different as far as Equality for all castes concerned.

Vidya Balan as Vidya in Sherni
Vidya Balan as Vidya in Sherni
After impressing with her performance in Shakuntala Devi last year, Vidya balan this year made her presence felt in the role of a forest officer in the film Sherni.
Vidya Balan bowled over with her act as forest officer Vidya who, like a tigress, wades through the various obstacles coming her way in striking a balance in an area of man animal conflict.
As Vidya, she brought a degree of finesse to her role . Watching her in the series, It is difficult to imagine anyone else playing the part the way she does.
