The poor run by Bollywood at the box office in India continues with Aamir Khan’s much awaited film Laal Singh Chaddha performing below expectations in theatres across the country,  earning just Rs 11.5 cr on its opening day.

Laal Singh Chaddha earns Rs 11.5 cr on its opening day in India

Released to sky high expectations, Laal Singh Chaddha failed to enthuse audiences to the theatres despite the presence of Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor and in spite of the hype surrounding it.

The opening day collections of Laal Singh Chaddha at Rs 11.5 cr is the lowest for an Aamir Khan film in the last one decade.

Laal Singh Chaddha performed well in Delhi and NCR and in Punjab.  However the film performed poorly in mass circuits like Mumbai,  Gujarat and Pune.  It has also failed to draw crowds at the theatres in places like Uttar Pradesh.

The below expectations collections of Laal Singh Chaddha come as a shock for the film trade, which had been reeling from the lacklustre run of many big starrer Bollywood films released in cinemas in recent months like Jersey, Attack, Runway 34, Heropanti2,  Prithviraj and Dhaakad.

Barring The Kashmir Files,  Bhool Bhulaiya2 and Jug Jugg Jeeyo,  most Hindi films released in cinemas in 2022 have had a below average run at the box office in India.

Directed by Advait Chandan and Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and  Viacom18 Studios, Laal Singh Chaddha is a remake of the 1994 Hollywood film Forrest Gump .

The film stars Aamir Khan in the title role  alongside Kareena Kapoor, Naga Chaitanya  and Mona Singh. South  Indian  actor  Naga Chaitanya makes his Hindi film debut with Laal Singh Chaddha.

The film has been in the making for the last four years. Its release  was constantly delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Laal Singh Chaddha has evoked criticism from several quarters for its uncomplementary portrayal of the Army.
