Ek Villain Returns earns Rs 6.75 cr on its opening day |
Ek Villain Returns, which stars John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria in key roles, performed better than expected, especially in single screen theatres across the country.
A sequel to the 2014 Sidharth Malhotra, Shradha Kapoor Riteish Deshmukh starrer Ek Villain, Ek Villain Returns released in cinemas on July 29.
The good opening taken by Ek Villain Returns at the box office has come as a pleasant surprise for the film trade considering its low hype, less than prominent 1stars and the poor opening taken by Bollywood films released in cinemas in recent months, including big starrers like Jersey, Attack, Runway 34 , Heropanti2 and last week's Shamshera.
Trade experts said that the film has performed well in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Bihar and Hyderabad . It has especially drawn crowds at the single screen theatres.
Observers in the film trade feel that it is the mass appealing action and the mystery element associated with Ek Villain Returns that is drawing the audience, especially the youth, to the theatres. The film is expected to witness a jump in its collections on Saturday and Sunday.
Produced by Shobha Kapoor, Ekta Kapoor, Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar under the banner of Balaji Motion Pictures and T series, Ek Villain Returns is a spiritual sequel to the 2014 film Ek Villain.
Directed by Mohit Suri, who also directed the original, Ek Villain Returns stars John Abraham, Arjun Kapoor, Disha Patani and Tara Sutaria.
