Shamshera continues poor run of Bollywood films, earns just Rs 40 cr in opening week

Continuing the poor run of Bollywood films in recent months, the big budget action film Shamshera had a below average performance at the box office, earning just Rs 40 cr in its opening week.
Despite being backed by the Yash Raj banner and boasting of the presence of popular stars Ranbir Kapoor and Sanjay Dutt, Shamshera failed to draw crowds at the theatres.

After showing some buoyancy in the opening weekend with collections of
Rs 31 cr, the grand action spectacle saw a sharp drop in its collections on the week days, ending up with collections of just Rs 40 cr in its opening week.
Shamshera had below average collections in most of the parts of India. The film failed to show any growth in mass circuits like Delhi, Mumbai, Punjab and Hyderabad.
The film suffered from a lack of audience occupancy in cinemas, with led to the cancellation of many screenings
The poor response to the film, despite its attractive promos and trailers, has send shock waves through the film industry.
Budgeted at ₹150 crore, Shamshera is one of the most expensive Hindi films in recent years, making it a major box office disaster.
The below average collections of the film continues the poor run of Bollywood films released in cinemas in recent months, including Jersey, Attack, Runway 34, Heropanti2 and Dhaakad.
Barring The Kashmir Files, Bhool Bhulaiya2 and Jug Jugg Jeeyo, most Hindi films released in 2022 have failed to draw crowds at the theatres.
Produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films and directed by Karan Malhotra, Shamshera stars Ranbir Kapoor in a double role with Sanjay Dutt playing the antagonist. The film also stars Vaani Kapoor, Ronit Roy, Saurabh Shukla and Ashutosh Rana in pivotal roles.
Set in the 1800s, the story follows a dacoit tribe and their fight for independence against the British rule.
