Horror comedy Bhediya earns Rs 27 cr in opening weekend

After a blockbuster run by psychological thriller Drishyam 2 last week, horror comedy Bhediya had an above average run at the box office,  earning Rs 27 cr in its opening weekend.

The story of a person who transforms into a wolf after being bitten by the creature,  Bhediya,  which released in cinemas on November 25, earned Rs 7 cr on its opening day.

The film witnessed a spurt in its collections on Saturday and Sunday , taking its earnings in the opening weekend to Rs 27 cr.

Directed by Amar Kaushik and produced by Dinesh Vijan,  Bhediya stars Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon in the lead roles.

Bhediya stars Deepak Dobriyal, Abhishek Banerjee and Saurabh Shukla in pivotal roles.

Set in the forests of Arunachal, Bhediya is a story of Bhaskar, a man who gets bitten by a wolf, and begins to transform into the creature. As Bhaskar and his buddies try to find answers, a bunch of twists, turns, and laughs ensue.

Bhediya is the third installment in Vijan's horror-comedy universe .

The above average response to Bhediya in the opening weekend comes after a blockbuster run by psychological thriller Drishyam 2 last week with collections of Rs 104 cr in its opening week.

The good showing by Drishyam2 and Bhediya is a boost to film trade which has witnessed several big budget Bollywood films like Prithviraj, Shamshera, Heropanti2, Jersey and Laal Singh Chaddha meet with a lukewarm response at the box office.

Barring Brahmastra, Bhool Bhulaiya2 and Jug Jugg Jeeyo,  most Hindi films released post the pandemic have failed at the box office with cinelovers failing to throng to the theatres.
