The grand production design and the real life settings of the period drama Jubilee has been a talking point among cinelovers.

The credit for the spectacular sets of Jubilee, directed by Vikramaditya Motwane,  goes to Pune based studio philmCGI , which has carved its niche as a player to reckon with by working on and successfully delivering VFX for many prominent series and movies like Sacred Games, Qala to name a few.

For the studio, which has worked closely with Director Vikramaditya Motwane in the past, working on VFX for Jubilee’ was not only challenging but also exciting .

The new webseries Jubilee, being streamed on Amazon Prime Video, takes a look at the various risks taken by the pioneers of the film industry to establish a place for themselves in top ranks of the film world and in the hearts of cinelovers.

Created by Vikramaditya Motwane and Soumik Sen, Jubilee is a poetic tale woven around an ensemble of characters and the gambles they're willing to take, in pursuit of their dreams, passion, ambition and love.

Set in an India which had taken its incipient steps on the path of development after Independence,  Jubilee narrates the story of various artists, filmmakers and technicians as they struggled to make a name for themselves in the initial years of Bollywood.  It's is the story of their dreams,  passion and love for theatre and cinema which laid the foundations for Bollywood.

Jubilee is based on India during a period when the nation was torn by partition but brought together by the love for Cinema. The characters are bold and show their willingness to take gambles in the pursuit of their love, dreams, passion and ambition.

The series takes us back to yesteryear of Mumbai when it was still known as Bombay .

For the studio philmCGI, creating the magnificent architecture from that period and old roads, rails and trams was an amazing experience. Bombay as it was known then, is known even today for the old stone buildings and larger then life grand facades.

Talking about the effort that went into creating the sets for Jubilee,  Arpan Gaglani, MD philmCGI & VFX Director, Jubilee, said, A lot of research via old images and archives to help create the perfect cities was used. We even took inspiration from old black and white pictures from our family albums to help recreate the perfect visuals for the series. Off course the VFX did not stop there we had so many different facets to cover from start to end’

We started this series during covid and had many restrictions but the zest of the team kept pushing us to create the most amazing visuals in probably the most trying times of our age’ Arpan Gaglani added.

According to Anand Bhanushali, MD philmCGI, ''We used a lot of new methods and technology while working on the series giving it the most real feel, which is why many people did not even realise the magnitude of the VFX work and that is a big win for us .''

The series boasts of grand production values with the ambience and setting of that period beautifully captured on the screen. The series has a pristine quality about it which brings alive the charm and allure of the Golden Era which laid the foundations of Bollywood.
