Giving a makeover to the Saas Bahu sagas on Indian television, a trend spawned by the popular series Kyunki SaaS Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Disney Hotstar will next month bring a new series Saas, Bahu Aur Flamingo which gives a makeover to the traditional saas Bahu.

Featuring a new brand of Bold, Brave and Brazen will be the new series Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo, set to premiere on Disney Hotstar on May 5.

Disney+ Hotstar released a teaser capturing the hatke saas-bahus (and beti!) .

This new era of these familial ties will showcase four women running a business empire, shattering misconceptions and not just playing the power game, but owning it!

Produced by Maddock Films, Saas Bahu aur Flamingo will stream on Disney+ Hotstar 5th May 2023 onwards.

The new series will witness the badass ladies bring the house down with hardcore action, drama and utter ruthlessness - one gunshot at a time!

Helmed by ardent director and creator Homi Adajania, Saas Bahu Aur Flamingo is led by a fabulous female cast including Dimple Kapadia, Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar, and Isha Talwar along with a talented ensemble comprising of Ashish Verma, Varun Mitra, Udit Arora, Deepak Dobriyal and Monica Dogra amongst others.

Speaking about the series, Bollywood actress Dimple Kapadia, who was earlier seen in the political thriller Taandav, said, ''Saas Bahu aur Flamingo is difficult for me to explain as a journey because it’s not like anything I have seen or done before. When tragedy strikes and the world turns its back on her, Savitri doesn’t curl up and die, but rises from the ashes and creates her own destiny.

This is what I love about her character. She owns her alternate sense of morality. Trust is the only currency she deals in. Savitri is the most bad-ass saas you’ve ever seen and very compelling to watch. She has many enigmatic faces. Brutal and vulnerable, she is a master in manipulation, playing a very high stakes game that seesaws between life and death.''

Talking about the series, Radhika Madan said, “With Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo, we see a progressive shift in the dynamics of a mother-daughter relationship. My character of Savitri’s daughter is one - that you wouldn’t want on your bad side, but surely want on your side! I have worked with Homi Adajania before and I love the way he shapes the narrative with his edgy perspective. His vision of Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo and character dynamics in it really struck a chord with me and I can’t wait for the audience to see this on Disney+ Hotstar soon!”

A girl Dhar said that the new series seeks to challenges the notion of saas bahus on the screen.

“When we hear ‘saas bahu’ we instantly think of the subdued stereotypical equation that women share, one that we have grown up watching on television and are conditioned to believe. Disney+ Hotstar’s Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo challenges this very notion and how! It does not shy away from showcasing intense action and pulp combined with an intriguing storyline. Showing women in a different light altogether, it is here to surprise us all,''she said.

Speaking about the series, Isha Talwar said, “Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo is a show about women who have fought conditioning to a large extent, believe in standing up for other women, knowing their place in the world at large! I’ve wanted to work with the maker Homi Adajania for a while now and I am ecstatic that it happened with a once-in-a lifetime kind of role in Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo!”

Talking about the new show, it's director Homi Adajania said, “With Saas, Bahu aur Flamingo, I wanted to create a chaotic world dominated by indomitable women and break the stereotypes, speaking of which, the biggest one that we have broken is the Saas-Bahu cliché. I needed powerful actors and Dimple Kapadia, Radhika Madan, Angira Dhar and Isha Talwar are exactly that. They have owned their characters and breathed life into them making them so unique. As dysfunctional as they are as a family, when they are threatened, they unify as a fearsome force to reckon with. And believe me when that happens, you don’t want to be in their way!"

The series revolves around four inimitable women, the matriarch Savitri, her daughters-in-law, Bijli and Kajal, and her daughter Shanta who live in Hastipur - a forgotten village in the north-west.

Savitri runs a company named Rani Cooperative, trading in products ranging from jari-booti balms to textiles. But everything here isn’t what it seems. Turns out, this cottage business is just a front for the biggest drug cartel being run in South Asia.
