Choreographers Master Kamal, Suresh Bhatt & P L Raj helped to create Rishi Kapoor's image as dancing star

In his autobiography, Rishi Kapoor admits role of these people in creating his 'dancing star' image

Among the legion of stars in Hindi  cinema Rishi Kapoor is considered one of the greatest romantic stars .

A big role in establishing Rishi Kapoor as a romantic star was played by his dancing moves in the film he starred in such as Kabhi Kabhie, Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin,  Karz, Khel Khel Mein and Sargam

Writing in his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor uncensored,  the late actor acknowledged the contribution of Choreographers Master Kamal,  Suresh Bhatt and P L Raj in creating buzz for him as a 'dancing star'.

'Even as I send my heartfelt gratitude to my music composers, directors and playback singers who embellished my career, I also send out a huge vote of appreciation to the choreographers who helped bring their songs to life with their brilliant dance sequences that made me popular as a dancing star.

Master Kamal,  Suresh Bhatt and PL Raj were behind the well orchestrated dance moves that the audience saw me perform on screen.  It was quite a feat they accomplished, turning me into a dancing star because I believe I have two left feet,'Rishi Kapoor said.

Rishi Kapoor said that choreographers Master Kamal, Suresh Bhatt and PL Raj helped create his image as a dancing star

The actor said that a big factor that created his image as a dancing star was that he worked hard on his dance sequences and had his facial expressions under control .

'I was very hard working and had my facial expressions under control.  Neetu (Kapoor) was the one who noticed this and remarked to me, 'you were just an average dancer but nobody could replicate your expressions '. Perhaps that is why the dance numbers in films like Karz and Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin have attained cult status,'Rishi Kapoor wrote in his autobiography.

Rishi Kapoor said that none of his contemporaries,  barring Jeetendra,  became popular as dancing stars.

'Neetu and I were considered a terrific pair of dancers. That's because there was no one else on the scene. Jeetendra and Sridevi came much later. When Neetu and I came on the scene,  we started a new trend of young lovers who romance, danced and sang songs.  Khel Khel Mein established us as a dancing duo and I am extremely grateful director Ravi Tandon,  R D Burman and choreographer P L Raj for creating that image.

It was youthful and Hindi cinema had never seen such abandon on the part of the hero and heroine in dance numbers. The trend we set caught on with Jeetendra and other actors.  But Rajesh Khanna never danced, so did Dharmendra,  Shatrughan Sinha,  Vinod Khanna or my brother Randhir Kapoor.  They may have done a number here or there but they did not become popular for their dance routines, 'Rishi Kapoor said.

'Working hard and diligently following my choreographers instructions, I was able to carve a  niche for myself in the dancing department.  I had a particular knack for qawwalli-style movements. Two of the greatest qawwallis ever picturised in Hindi films were filmed on me-- Hai agar dushman from Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin and Parda Hai Parda from Amar Akbar Anthony.  There was also Pari ho Aasmani tum from Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai, 'Rishi wrote in his autobiography.
