Shahenshah, a film which marked the comeback of megastar Amitabh Bachchan after a brief gap due to his foray in politics, was also offered to Bollywood actor Jeetendra.
In his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor uncensored , Rishi Kapoor revealed that after Amitabh's accident on the sets of Coolie, Tinnu Anand and his brother Bittu Anand had approached Jeetendra, who was then a top ranking star, for Coolie.
Writing in his autobiography, Rishi Kapoor said, 'many years ago, I remember, when my closest buddy Bittu Anand fell on hard times and needed to be bailed out, I did a couple of films for him but they were all flops. Jeetendra was a very big star at the start of the 1980s, getting second billing after Amitabh Bachchan.

When Amitabh met with an accident on the sets of Coolie, Bittu and his brother Tinnu Anand, who were to make Shahenshah (1988) with Amitabh, were in a fix. So I took them to Shambu(Jeetendra's nick name). However, he refused the offer, saying that it didn't feel right. ''
The reason for Jeetendra's refusal, Rishi Kapoor felt, perhaps lay in the fact that he didn't feel right to take up a film project meant for another actor.
'Perhaps, he did not feel comfortable taking on a project meant for another actor, especially when that actor was ailing. And that is one of the things I grew to admire about Shambu,'Rishi Kapoor said.
Amitabh Bachchan's accident on the sets of Manmohan Desai's Coolie had put into disarray his shooting schedules for his under production films as well as his upcoming projects like Shahenshah . Eventually, however, Shahenshah was made with Amitabh Bachchan in the lead.
Produced and directed by Tinnu Anand, Shahenshah, released in 1988, starred Amitabh Bachchan in the lead role with Meenakshi Sheshadri and Pran, Prem Chopra and Sharat Saxena in pivotal roles . The film marked Amitabh Bachchan's comeback to films after a three year hiatus due to his foray in politics.
Shahenshah was the highest grossing Indian film in 1988 despite a strong competition from Tezaab and Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak.
