Together,  the duo of actor Rishi Kapoor and music composer R D Burman associated with several popular musicals in the 70s and 80s , including Zehreela Insaan, Khel Khel Mein, Bade Dil Wala,  Rahi Badal Gaye,Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin and Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai, whose music remains popular to this day.

However,  not many people may know that in the evening of his life, Pancham,  as R D Burman was lovingly referred to in the film industry,  sought the help of Rishi Kapoor to get work in Hindi films.

In his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor uncensored,  Rishi Kapoor said that Pancham, the gifted genius with whom he had the opportunity to work quite early in his career,  had sought his help in the 90s to get work in films that he was doing .

R D Burman sought Rishi Kapoor's help to get work in his films in 90s

'Sometimes in late 1993, Pancham called me and, after exchanging pleasantries, told me how he was no longer composing for my films. He asked me to look into it as see if there was any possibility of him doing so for any of my forthcoming films,'Rishi Kapoor wrote in his autobiography.

Rishi Kapoor said that though Pancham was not in any financial problem , a lack of work was troubling him.

'He(Pancham) added that it was not money he was worried about, that he was quite well placed financially, but that the lack of work was troubling him. As we went back a long way,  he asked me if I could put in a word with the producers I was working with.,'Rishi Kapoor said.

Rishi Kapoor said that the request by Pancham put him in a fix.

'In the early 1990s,the film's I was working in had a new crop of composers like Nadeem Shravan, Anand Milind and others. Filmmakers who came to me had already decided on these composers and I had no say in the matter,'Rishi Kapoor said.

Even as the actor,  who felt sad that a great composer like R D Burman had come to such a pass, he received the  sad news of Pancham's untimely death.

'Even as I was mulling over the request,  wondering what I could do,  extremely sad to see such a great composer come to this pass, came the news of his untimely death soon after,'Rishi Kapoor said.

For the actor,  it remained an abiding regret that he could not help the composer when he needed it the most.

'It remains an abiding regret that I could do anything to help him when he needed it the most,'the actor said.

R D Burman scored music for 17 to 18 films of Rishi Kapoor.  The music scored by Pancham for these films remains popular to this day.

'Pancham scored the music for seventeen or eighteen films for me, and most of these had memorable music,  with songs which are favourites with radio channels even today, 'Rishi Kapoor said.

One of the greatest music composers in the Hindi film industry,  R D Burman composed music of several films of Rishi Kapoor in the 1970s and 1980s including Zehreela Insaan,  Hum Kisi Se Kum Nahin,  Bade Dil Wala,  Rahi Badal Gaye, Khel Khel Mein and Zamane Ko Dikhana Hai.
