It was a much talked about on screen reunion in Bollywood in the mid 1980s.
Ramesh Sippy's Saagar, released in 1985, created a lot of buzz for the film bringing back on the big screen the popular pair of Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia, nearly ten years after they sizzled the cinema screen in Raj Kapoor's Bobby(1973).
However, Rishi Kapoor was initially hesitant to do Saagar.
Writing in his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor uncensored, Rishi Kapoor said that he had some reservations about doing Saagar.

'I did have some initial reservations about doing Saagar, 'the late Rishi Kapoor said in his autobiography.
Rishi Kapoor said that he was hesitant about doing a film with Dimple Kapadia, ten years after Bobby.
'I was going to reunite with my Bobby Co star (in Saagar) and I was hesitant. I sent a message to Kakaji (Rajesh Khanna) asking him whether it was okay for me to do a film with Dimple. If I remember right, he got back to me, saying that if I didn't do the film, someone else would, ''Rishi Kapoor said.
Rishi Kapoor said that he was more worried about what Neetu (Neetu Singh) would think of my working with Dimple after all these years.
'In any case I was more worried about what Neetu would think of my working with Dimple after all these years. The talk of an affair between Dimple and me were long dead. However, in 1984, when Saagar was being made, I was just four years into my marriage.
Dimple had separated from Kakaji in 1983, nearly ten years after her marriage. Neetu must have had some reservations but she was very dignified about the whole thing. It is to her credit that she did not put her foot down and allowed me to do Saagar, 'Rishi wrote.
Released in 1985, Saagar, a musical romantic drama directed by Ramesh Sippy, created a lot of buzz for reuniting the popular pair of Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia on screen, more than ten years after they set the cinema screen on fire with their pairing in Raj Kapoor's Bobby, released in 1973. Bobby was a blockbuster at the time of its release and made Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia a popular on screen pair.
However, Dimple Kapadia, who married Rajesh Khanna during the making of Bobby, quit films after the release of the film.
Saagar, that marked Dimple Kapadia's comeback to films after a ten year gap, also starred Kamal Haasan in a pivotal role.
The film, which had story, screenplay and lyrics by Javed Akhtar and music dire tion by R D Burman, won a lot of critical acclaim for its performances and its chartbuster music.
The film won three Filmfare awards, Including Best actor for Kamal Haasan, Best actress for Dimple Kapadia and best Male Playback singer for Kishore Kumar for the song 'Saagar Kinare'.
