Amrish Puri was offered villain's role in Raj Kapoor's Ram Teri Ganga Maili 


Amrish Puri could not do Ram Teri Ganga Maili due to his other commitments, Rishi Kapoor said in his autobiography

Amish Puri, among the legendary villains of Indian cinema,  missed an opportunity to work in Raj Kapoor's Ram Teri Ganga Maili due to his other commitments. 


According to the autobiography of Raj Kapoor's son and Bollywood's favourite lover boy Rishi Kapoor,  Amrish Puri was offered the role of a villain in Ram Teri Ganga Maili (which eventually  went to Raza Murad) but he could not do the film since his dates were already committed to Steven Spielberg's Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom.

Writing in his autobiography Khullam Khulla: Rishi Kapoor uncensored,  Rishi Kapoor said, '' Amrish Puri wanted to work with my father  but never got to work with him . He was to do Ram Teri Ganga Maili.  It was offered to him. However,  his dates were already committed to Steven Spielberg's 'Indiana Jones: Temple of Doom '. 


Released in 1985, Kapoor's Ram Teri Ganga Maili , a romantic drama,  starred Rajiv Kapoor and Mandakini in the lead roles.  The film featured Divya Rana, Sushma Seth,  Saeed Jaffrey,  Kulbhushan Kharbanda and Raza Murad in pivotal roles.  


Ram Teri Ganga Maili featured Raza Murad in the role of the villain. 


Amrish Puri,  who rose to fame after his villainous roles in films like 'Vidhaata' , 'Meri Jung' , 'Shakti ','Hero' and 'Mr India', was a busy villain in the 80s and the 90s. 


His role of the villain Mogambo in Shekhar Kapur's 'Mr India' is considered one of the greatest villainous roles in Indian cinema. 


He also made a mark in the West with films like Steven Spielberg and George Lucas' Hollywood film Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Richard Attenborough's Gandhi (1982) .
