Omicron surge; Large number of Bollywood films to witness release on OTT in January & February

With sharp spurt in Covid-19 cases in the country forcing shutdown of theatres, a large  number  of  latest Bollywood films will release on various OTT platforms in the month of January and February.

Lined up for telecast on various OTT platforms in January and  February are series of Bollywood films like Antim The Final Truth,  Tadap,  Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui, Velle, Satyameva Jayate 2, Loop Lapeta,  Mission Majnu and 83.






Several Bollywood films to witness release on OTT in January, February 



After it's recent release in cinemas,  the Salman Khan Ayush Sharma starrer Antim The Final Truth is now streaming on Zee5 streaming platform.  Antim The Final Truth,  directed by Mahesh Manjrekar , features Ayush Sharma,  Mahima Makwana and Mahesh Manjrekar in pivotal roles and superstar Salman Khan in a Special appearance.

After it's release in cinemas in November,  Satyameva Jayate 2 was released on Amazon Prime Video last month.  Directed by Milap Zaveri,  Satyameva Jayate 2,  a story about the war against corruption,  features John Abraham in a triple role alongside Divya Khosla Kumar. 

Satyameva Jayate 2 released in theatres to mixed reviews. 

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui , featuring Ayushmann Khurrana and Vaani Kapoor in lead roles,  is streaming on Netflix streaming platform from January 7 while Velle,  starring Abhay Deol in the lead with Karan Deol, Anya Singh and Mouni Roy, started streaming on Amazon Prime Video from January 7.

Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui,  which released in cinemas last month,  got acclaim from critics for its sensitive portrayal of life of a trans girl . Directed by Abhishek Kapoor,  Chandigarh Kare Aashiqui won plaudits from audiences and critics for performances by Vaani Kapoor and Ayushmann Khurrana.


Velle, directed by Deven Munjal, is the story of crazy encounters by three friends (Karan Deol, Vishesh Tiwari and Sawant Singh premi). The film elicited mixed reviews from critics.

The coming week will see the release of Milan Lutharia's Tadap on OTT. Tadap, which marked the Bollywood debut of Suniel Shetty's son Ahan Shetty with Tara Sutaria featuring in the female lead,  will premiere on Amazon Prime Video on January  14.

Further,  the coming weeks could also witness the release of Kabir Khan's 83, the story of India’s historic triumph in the 1983 Cricket World Cup,  on an OTT platform. 83, which stars Ranveer Singh in the lead as the then Indian skipper Kapil Dev,  released in theatres last month

The film won praise for Kabir Khan's direction and the performances by Ranveer Singh and other members of the cast including Tahir Bhasin and Jeeva.

The coming month will also witness release of latest Bollywood films on OTT.

Films like the Tapsee Pannu starrer Loop Lapeta and the Siddharth Malhotra starrer Mission Majnu will be released on various OTT platforms.

Loop Lapeta will be released on Netflix on February 4. 

After the recent postponement of the Shahid Kapoor Mrunal Thakur starrer Jersey due to spurt in Covid-19 cases,  there are talks about the makers of the film mulling its release on an OTT platform . 

With the spurt in Covid-19 cases in the country forcing shutdown of theatres in states like Delhi,  Bihar and Punjab and operations of theatres in several states under restrictions,  the release of the latest Bollywood films on OTT platforms will enable audiences to see these films from the comfort of their homes.

Recent weeks have witnessed a sharp spurt in Covid-19 cases in the country.  Nearly 1.5 lakh cases of Covid-19 were recorded in the country in the last 24 hours. The state of Maharashtra saw over 40000 cases in the last 24 hours while Delhi saw nearly 20000 cases in the last 24 hours.
