Mithya; Huma Qureshi,Avantika Dassani shine in engrossing psychological thriller with surprising twists and turns
By Rajesh Ahuja
A Hindi professor Juhi Adhikari(Huma Qureshi) looking to carve a distinct identity for herself out of her illustrious father's shadow finds her life falling apart after an encounter with a student Rhea Rajguru(Avantika Dassani)who claims to adulate Juhi. A unsavory encounter with Rhea wherein Juhi charges her of plagiarism, sets off a psychological rivalry between the two, leading to series of unfortunate incidents in Juhi's life , shattering her married life with Neil(Parambrata Chatterjee) and adversely affecting her career prospects.
The new web series Mithya, currently streaming on Zee5, takes us through the psychological war between Juhi and her student Rhea, setting off several unfortunate incidents.
Mithya is an engrossing psychological thriller with surprising twists and turns |
The story of Mithya is interesting and has all the elements of an engrossing psychological thriller.
The screenplay of the series is gripping and filled with surprising twists and turns as Rhea's mind games throw Juhi's life in disarray, adding an element of intrigue and mystery to the series.
While initially it seems like Rhea is just a rich and arrogant student trying to settle scores with her professor for rejection of her assay, unravelling of several murky secrets as the story progresses indicates that there is more to her rivalry with Juhi than what meets the eye. As the story progresses, surprising and even shocking twists in the tale and in the relationship between Juhi and Rhea come to the fore, keeping the viewers constantly hooked to the proceedings. What goes to the credit of the director Rohan Sippy is that he maintains an element of mystery throughout the length of the series.
Like any good psychological thriller, Mithya boasts of good performances.
After impressing with her simple housewife turned politician act in Maharani, Huma Qureshi pitches in with another power-packed performance in Mithya.. Huma Qureshi truly portrays Juhi who finds her life falling after meeting Rhea.
Her body language- her quivering lips, her irritability, her tense look and the feeling of uncertainty gripping her- perfectly symptomise a woman who finds her married and professional life falling apart .
Parambrata Chatterjee is efficient in his portrayal of Juhi's husband Neil.
The surprise of the series is however Avantika Dassani as Juhi's student Rhea Rajguru. A daughter of 90s actress Bhagyashree, Avantika makes an impressive debut with Mithya. She pulls off the complex character of Rhea quite well. As a smart woman, who is adept in the art of manipulation to get her way and one who plays mind games to make Juhi's life hell, Avantika comes up with a brilliant act. Rajit Kapoor is impressive in his brief role as Juhi's father.
Rest of the cast, including Neha Sareen as Juhi's friend Sharmistha, Indraneil Sengupta as her colleague Vishal, Sameer Sonu as Rhea's father and K C Shankar as police inspectorAjeet Biswas, lend able support.
In a nutshell, Mithya is an engrossing thriller with surprising twists and turns and notable performances by Huma Qureshi and Avantika Dassani.
My Rating; 3/5
