The Kashmir Files continues to soar at the box office, earns Rs 17 cr on day 5

The Kashmir Files is doing extraordinary business in Delhi,  Uttar Pradesh,  Punjab and other regions in Northern India as well as in Gujarat.  Collections in Mumbai and South India have also seen an upwards growth day by day.

The film is attracting huge crowds at the cinema halls,  especially in the multiplexes.

Considering the rising trend of the collections of the film,  it is on its way to becoming a blockbuster and could touch the figure of Rs 100 cr in its first week itself.

After an opening day figure of Rs 3.25 cr , The Kashmir Files saw a sharp increase in its collections on Saturday to Rs 8.5 cr and to Rs 15 cr on Sunday.. The collections  remained steady at Rs 15 cr on Monday.

Trade sources said that the film saw a 350 per cent jump in its earnings from Friday to  Sunday ,especially in Delhi , Uttar Pradesh,  Gujarat  and Punjab.

Collecttions of the film are commendable considering that it is a film with a lesser known star cast and one which released on just 700 cinema screens across  India,  much less compared to the other release of great week  Radhe Shyam,  which released to a tremendous hype.

The last time that a film with a lesser known star cast saw such a unprecedented response was Jai Santoshi Maa in 1978 and Gadar in 2001.

In fact,  a sharp rise in its collections on Saturday to Rs 11.5 cr led its distributors to increase the screen count from 700 on Friday to 2000 on Sunday

Directed by Vivek Agnihotri,  The Kashmir Files,  based on the exodus of Kashmiri pandits during the insurgency in Jammu and Kashmir , is a part of trilogy of films on various burning political events in the country.

Produced by Zee Studios and written and directed by Vivek Agnihotri, The Kashmir Files stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Mithun Chakraborty and Pallavi Joshi in key roles.

The Kashmir Files is the second in the trilogy of films , beginning with The Tashkent Files, which was based in the mysterious death of former prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri. The third in the trilogy is The Delhi Files, based in the anti Sikh riots of 1984.

It opened to mixed reviews in India.  Critics have praised the performance of Anupam kher in the film.

The film was initially set to release theatrically worldwide on January 26 2022, coinciding with  Republic Day  but was postponed due to the third wave of COVID-19 caused by the Omicron variant spread.

It has been declared tax-free in Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat.
