Given the Continuing craze for the film, it could well cross the earning of Brahmastra in its third week.
Riding on a strong buzz, the brand value of the original and the presence of Ajay Devgn and Tabu, Drishyam2 took a rocking start at the box office in India, earning Rs 62 cr in its opening weekend.
After earning Rs 15 cr on its opening day, the film saw a sharp jump in its collections on Saturday and Sunday with earnings of Rs 20 cr on its second day and Rs 27 cr on Sunday.
The opening taken by Drishyam2 is the third highest opening for a Hindi film released this year, after The Kashmir Files and Brahmastra.
It is also the fourth highest opening taken by an Ajay Devgn film, after Singham Returns, Golmaal Returns and Total Dhamaal.
A sequel to the 2015 psychological thriller Drishyam, Drishyam 2, directed by Abhishek Pathak, stars Ajay Devgn, Shreya Saran, Akshay Khanna and Tabu in key roles.
Produced by Bhushan Kumar, Kumar Mangat Pathak, Abhishek Pathak and Krishan Kumar, Drishyam 2 is a remake of the Malayalam film of the same name which was released in February last year and was a huge success.
The original film, released in 2015, was a huge success and evoked praise from critics for the performances by Ajay Devgn and Tabu.
The strong opening taken by Drishyam2 at the box office has brought cheer to the film trade which has witnessed several big budget Bollywood films, barring Brahmastra, Bhool Bhulaiya2 and The Kashmir Files, released post the pandemic failing to draw crowds at the theatres,
Past few months have witnessed big budget Bollywood films like Prithviraj, Shamshera, Heropanti2, Jersey, Attack, Runway 24 and Lal Singh Chaddha meet with a lukewarm response at the box office contrary to the high expectations from them.
