The history of Mumbai film industry is full of actors who have drawn inspiration from the magic and charisma of legendary actor Dilip Kumar.

Among the list of fans and admirers of the Bollywood thespian is the popular hero of the 80s and 90s Vinod Khanna.

An incident which evidences the love and admiration that Vinod Khanna had for the legendary Dilip Kumar was recently narrated by Dilip Kumar's wife Saira Banu.

In a post on Instagram,  Saira Banu revealed that Vinod Khanna was so much in awe of Dilip Sahib that he absconded from the sets of his film Aarop during a brief visit by the veteran actor on the sets.

'Vinod loved Sahib incredibly. Once he and I were shooting at Natraj Studios for Guru Dutt's film Aarop, directed by Atmaramji. On the same day,  Sahib was headed to the airport and I had requested him to stop by the Studios before his flight to Delhi.

As Sahib arrived,  Vinod,  Johnny Walker Bhai and I were rehearsing a scene. While Sahib walked in, Vinod disappeared somewhere. Soon after,  Atmaramji sent assistants to look for him so that we could go ahead with the shot. Vinod took pretty long to come into the set and Sahib had already left. As soon as Vinod appeared, I asked him,'where were you for so long? Vinod laughed and said, ''oh boy! Do you think I can act and perform while Dilipji,''the Master of Acting', is watching? I wouldbeshakingwithnervousness,  so I absconded!''

Reminiscing about his experience of working with Vinod Khanna,  Saira Banu said that Vinod always ensured that ladies had comfort levels while going home from the Studios .

'One day, I sent my car back home for some important work and unexpectedly,  director Atmaramji finished shooting  much earlier than expected.  He had a perky tiny Volkswagen and seeing that my card  had not arrived,  he looked at the paraphernalia of all the things I carried with me and immediately offered his car to drive me home safely.

I said that 'mere itna Salman kahaan aayega tumhari beautiful choice si gaadi main(how will so much of my baggage fit in into your beautiful small car). So he said I will wait till your car arrives.  Such a chivalrous man he was!,''Saira Banu says.

Aarop was a film in which Saira Banu starred with Vinod Khanna.

A romantic drama laced with crime and suspense,  Aarop, released in 1974, was produced and directed by Atmaram, brother of legendary filmmaker Guru Dutt. Aarop starred Saira Banu,  Vinod Khanna and Vinod Mehra in pivotal roles.  It starred Rehman as the villain.
