Saira Banu goes down memory lane on 47th anniversary of Hera Pheri

It was among the few films in the 70s that featured iconic actors Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna in the same frame.

The 1976 action comedy Hera Pheri was among the few films in the 1070s and 1980s that had iconic actors Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna share screen space,  the others being Amar Akbar Anthony, Parvarish and Muqaddar Ka Sikandar.

On the 47th anniversary of the film,  actress Saira Banu went down memory lane to reminisce memories of working in the film.



Saira Banu said that doing Hera Pheri with Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna was an enjoyable experience 





'It was a happy and enjoyable time to have done Hera Pheri with Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna,'Saira Banu recounted on the 47th anniversary of the film.

'Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna played crafty tricksters in the movie and I played a cunning female swindler,'Saira Banu recalled in a post on Instagram.

'Director Prakash Mehra let all three of us have a free hand at all the outrageously funny scenes . I had already done a lot of work with Vinod Khanna in films like PURAB AUR PASCHIM, AAROP and NEHLE PE DEHLA and with Amitabh in ZAMEER,'Saira Banu said.

Saira Banu said that working on the film was a fun experience for the three of them.

'We had a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere and the three of us would work at suggestions and improvisations to make the scenes riotously funny especially in the scenes where Vinod is constantly trying to tone down Amitabh from being overtly romantic to the heroine. 

My own favorite scene is where I am rattling off in Marathi and Vinod is trying to curb Amitabh's constant attempts to sit next to me,'Saira Banu recalled.

Released in 1976, Hera Pheri,  directed by Prakash Mehra,  was one of the six films in which Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna shares screen space.

The pairing of the two popular stars in a film at that time was a guarantee of the success of the movie.

Besides Amitabh Bachchan and Vinod Khanna,  Hera Pheri also starred
Saira Banu,  Sulakshana Pandit , Dr Sriram Lagoo and Asrani.
