Bell Bottom remains average on 2nd day, earns Rs 5.5 cr in first two days

The Akshay Kumar Vaani Kapoor starrer Bell Bottom continued to record average collections at the theatres on its second day, earning Rs 2.75 cr approximately on its second day on Friday.

The film, which opened in theatres to a tremendous buzz , thanks largely to its catchy promos and trailer and presence of an ensemble cast comprising  Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor and Lara Dutta,  did not witness any jump in its collections on its second day despite it being a holiday.

Bell Bottom,  which had recorded earnings of Rs 2.75 cr from theatres across India on its opening day on Thursday,  collected similar box office figures in Friday,  taking its two day collections to Rs 5.5 crore.

Bell Bottom earns Rs 5.5 cr in first two days

The earnings of Rs 5.5 cr come as a dampener for the exhibitors and the cinema halls owners who had been hoping for a collection in the range of Rs 5 to Rs 7 crore on its opening day and a jump in collections on the weekend.

Trade experts attribute the average box office numbers of the film to the closure of cinema halls in Maharashtra,  a region which contributes a big chunk to the theatrical revenue for a Hindi film.

The less than expected box office earnings are also being attributed to the fact that  theatres across India are currently operating at just 50 per cent occupancy due to the continuing threat of Covid-19 and the looming threat of the third wave.

Box office reports said that there was slight increase in earnings from Delhi and NCR on the second day.

However,  since cinema halls in many states are recording low occupancy in late evening and night shows due to threat of Covid-19, this  has invariably impacted the collections for the film.

A large  percentage of the box office figures for Bell Bottom have been reported from West Bengal,  where the film released on a large number  of single screen theatres.

Trade experts, however,  feel that the collections for the film could pick up on Saturday and Sunday , especially in Delhi where Chief Minister Arvind kejriwal  has relaxed the restrictions in market places after 8 pm.

This, trade experts feel, could lead to a larger occupancy  in the late evening and night shows .

Bell Bottom being the first  big starrer to release in theatres after a gap of nearly 17 months, exhibitors and cinema hall owners are expecting the film will boost the process of Revival of the film business by drawing audiences to the theatres.

Promos and trailer of Bell Bottom have  generated tremendous buzz among cinelovers ahead of its release.

The response to advance booking for the film, which opened last week,  has been quite mixed.

While the advance booking has been encouraging in stares like West Bengal and Delhi  the advance booking in other places like  Chandigarh, Bangalore and Hyderabad  has been somewhat slow to pick up.

Bell Bottom released  on 800 to 900 screens across the country,  including 125 screens in Delhi and NCR.

Trade Analysts feel that the box office returns of the film will depend to a large extent on word of mouth publicity for the film,  which is likely to draw audiences to the theatres to watch the film.

Punjabi film Puaada, which released in theatres this week,  witnessed an encouraging response from cinelovers.

Puaada, which brings together the popular pair of Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa on the screen for the fourth time,  has created tremendous buzz among cinelovers ahead of its release.

Trade sources said that despite the threat of the Covid pandemic continuing, many shows of the film have been sold in advance.

Puaada is having the biggest release for an Ammy Virk and Sonam Bajwa starrer outside of Punjab in India and also in the overseas markets.

The coming weeks will also witness the release of another big starrer Chehre,  a psychological thriller featuring superstar Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi in the lead.

Chehre, whose scheduled release in March had to be postponed due to the second wave of COVID-19,  is scheduled to hit theatres on August 27.

An unprecedented surge in covid cases in the country in March  resulted in  makers of mega starrers Haathi Mere Saathi, Bunty Aur Babli2, Chehre, Sooryavanshi and Satyamev Jayate 2 postponing release of these films till a later date.

The Covid situation  adversely impacted the earnings of the films released in theatres during the period,  including Roohi, Mumbai Saga, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar and Saina.

An Espionage thriller,  Bell Bottom is about a officer from the secret service (code named  Bell Bottom) orchestrate an operation to rescue several people held hostage by four terrorists on a flight.

One of the most awaited films this year, Bell Bottom has been directed by Ranjit M Tewari and produced by Pooja Entertainment and Emmay Entertainment.

Bell Bottom stars Akshay Kumar in the lead with Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi in other prominent roles.

The film was earlier scheduled to release on July 27. However,  due to uncertainty on reopening of theatres,  Akshay Kumar announced that the film will release in cinemas on August 19.

The news of the film's theatrical release has cheered the industry as well the audiences.
