Sardar Udham becomes latest film to have direct OTT release: to release on Amazon Prime Video in Oct

The trend of Bollywood films going for a direct OTT release continues amid uncertainty on reopening of theatres in Maharashtra  due to the threat of Delta variant of covid and looming threat of third wave of coronavirus pandemic. 

After Hungama 2, Bhuj The Pride of India,  Shershah and Bhoot Police,  the makers of Sardar Udham, a biographical film on freedom fighter Sardar Udham Singh, have decided to skip a theatrical release and go for a direct release on OTT.

Sardar Udham,  which features Vicky Kaushal in the title role,  will release on Amazon Prime Video in October.

Sharing the announcement of the release of the film, Amazon Prime Video said, ''you know the man but not his story. Bringing to you the story of India's freedom fighter, this october. watch #SardarUdhamOnPrime .'

Directed by Shoojit Sircar, Sardar Udham features Vicky kaushal in the role of freedom fighter Udham Singh, known for assassination of Michael O Dwyer,  the person responsible for the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre.

Sardar Udham has been ready for release since a long time bit in release in theatres had to be repeatedly postponed due to the COVID-19.

With uncertainty continuing on the reopening of theatres in Maharashtra amid the threat of the Delta variant of covid and looming threat of third wave , the makers Sardar Udham have decided to release the film on OTT.

Produced by Ronnie Lahiri and Sheel Kumar,  Sardar Udham features Banita Sandhu as the female lead. It also features Amol Parashar in a pivotal role.

Bonita Sandhu expressed her excitement on the release of Sardar Udham.

Sardar Udham is the latest Hindi film to skip theatrical release and go for a direct OTT release amid the uncertainty on reopening of theatres due to threat of Delta variant of covid and looming threat of third wave of COVID-19.

Earlier, films like Shershah,  Bhuj The Pride of India, Hungama 2 and Bhoot Police went for a direct OTT release.  While Shershah was released on Amazon Prime Video, Bhuj The Pride of India and Bhoot Police were released on Disney Hotstar.

Further,  makers of the sports biopic Rashmi Rocket and the romantic film Shiddat have announced their release on OTT in October.
